The Best Money Can Buy!
I rarely ever leave reviews, but I thought people should know about Fangst Freshwater Trout. It is fantastic!! I had searched online for recommendations for canned sardines and other fish items and this one was at the top of their list. It’s now at the top of mine as well.I was feeling lazy and didn’t want to cook, so I opened a can of these, sliced up some cucumbers and tomatoes, broke out the Saltines and Cream crackers and enjoyed every bite. The fish is packed in oil and herbs so I preferred it on the Cream crackers, but there’s a world of crackers and everyone has different tastes. I highly recommend these.

Genuinely sumptuous
I bought this can because someone on r/cannedsardines was waxing poetic about how good they are, and I was not disappointed! These are "making MMmMMmm sounds the whole time I am eating them" good. Great on crackers, on a salad, or just straight from the can. They are pricey, but they earn it!

Read this if it’s your first time buying this.
This canned fish is for acquired taste. I love fish and eat different kinds of fresh or canned fish. I bought this not knowing to expect. Anyway, this particular canned fish is expensive for what it is. I guess because it is imported into the country. It’s not raw but cooked, similar to those canned sardines. It’s not smelly so you can eat it inside on employee break room without getting new enemies. The juniper and lemon thyme imparts a slight flavor, not really overwhelming the fish. Now here’s the kicker, it has an ammonia after-taste, similar to chinese century eggs. It’s not strong, but you’ll get it when you’re about to swallow it. If you are expecting it to go down easy like canned sardines or tuna, that ammonia taste might catch you by surprise. I nearly threw up on my first bite. Like I said, this is an acquired taste. If you think you can put this over your toast or steamed rice like U.S. or Asian canned fish, that ammonia taste might throw you off.

Great flavor profile
Really delicious. Great flavor profile with the lemon and juniper. Trout could be a little less dry and a little less salty but overall it reminds me of crab, great texture and a touch of sweetness. For health reasons, I’d prefer they not use canola oil (rapeseed) but I appreciate that it is cold pressed! The fish is farmed which is not what I expected when I read “Nordic waters.” And the fish is smoked. Overall this is a great occasional treat.

Delicate & delicious Smoked Trout.
Sweet & yummy with great smoked flavor that is gentle without being overwhelming. Mild Trout which is much different from what you would expect elsewhere. Very delicate so enjoy without adding any other ingrediant. This is the best smoked Trout we've ever tasted from a tin. Highly recommend this product.
