The fruit which is gradually becoming popular in Germany has been an integral part of the Chinese kitchen and traditional medicine for centuries. It is rich in essential amino acids, Vitamin A (beta Carotene), Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin E (which is seldom found in fruits) and also has a high iron content. Goji berries are also called Bocksdorn fruit or wolf berries or luck berries, grown in China and Mongolia. It grows in summer green bushes which blooms from June to September. Like potatoes, tomatoes and chillies, the Goji berries belong to the night shade family. Like Chia seeds, Goji berries are "super foods". Food with high nutrition and vital substance content, as well a multiplicity of positive properties, are frequently denoted as super food. In taste, Goji berries remind one of cherries or raisins. They are mostly offered in dry form in Europa. The berries retain their rich nutrients through air-drying at approx. 25 degree Celsius. The Goji berry tastes good e.g., in muesli but is also ideal as fruit component in a crisp hearty salad or can be processed in cakes.
