Topsy and Tim: The New Baby

Highly recommended!
A brilliant story to read to a child who is about the gain a new sibling! My daughter already knew the Topsy and Tim characters well from reading other books in the series so this one was a useful addition as I am expecting my second child. I love the honest and simple way it explains about a new baby with hints in the pictures and text about extra conversations that you may need to have with your child (jealousy, breastfeeding, mummy being busier) Other books about new babies tend to be (in my opinion) too detailed about a baby growing or too abstract (house in my mummy) whereas this book is factual and also very sweet.

A good simple story with lots of information
As in all Topsy and Tim books this is a good, simple story which appeals to all children. Beware you will end up reading it until you are heartily sick of the story but your child will still say 'again'!Although it is a friend's mum who is having a baby it covers issues like the baby using Tony's old cot and Topsy and Tim taking some of their outgrown clothes for the baby. It also covers reasons why a baby cries. I also liked the fact that the new baby gave Tony a present.

Great kids book
My four year old daughter loves the Topsy and Tim books, and she has been wanting this one for a while. She wasn't disappointed it, she really enjoyed it. The books are always true to life and informative. They always have little puzzles at the end which she likes.

Prepared our son for his baby brother and shows breastfeeding
It's early days but I think that this book has really helped prepare our son (almost 2 when the baby was born). It's aimed at slightly older children but we talked around the pictures a lot rather than just using the text from the book. I really liked that it showed breastfeeding as that could have been confusing for him. It also says that babies cry a lot because they can't say what they need with words and that message seems to have gone in. Also has a little puzzle at the end which our son likes

Great for preparing a toddler for a sibling!
An excellent book for introducing the idea of a new baby. We bought this while I was pregnant with our second child and it was really helpful in getting our first ready. Tony Welch has a baby brother and T and T go to visit him. The story covers lots of aspects of having a baby, bathing it, feeding it, even the way the mum talks to Tony about the baby liking his older brother. I particularly liked that the mum in the story breastfeeds so it allows you the chance to discuss that with your toddler. It’s a good length and a story that will last beyond the purpose of preparing our first child for her baby sister. I would definitely recommend this if you are getting a first child ready for a new sibling.
