I know it's a trash can but it's the PERFECT trash can. The lid opens easily, closes slowly, the finish and fit are perfect and it looks great in our kitchen.

Look and function meet expectations. Second simplehuman trash can and they are worth the investment. My favorite part of the design is that it hides the garbage bag from view which I believe distracts from the aesthetics in other brands. Also the lid ticks inside a lip to keep nosey dogs honest

I was hesitant to spend this much on a trash can, but so many reviews talked about it being dog proof. I was ready to spend any amount to solve my dog & trash issue. For the first week things were great. The can holds a ton of trash (thanks to the very cool custom bags and fit removing an inner bucket.) The step was smooth and silent. It closes flush and therefore seemed to solve the dog problem. It also is exceptional at holding in odors. In fact my husband and I both commented that we were oddly attached and impressed with this trash can. Not something I expected to get so much pleasure from, but alas it really is an amazing product. That is until today. Three of my dogs are large and crafty but were not able to get into the can. The largest did step on the lever once but he wasn't smart enough to know what he did or how to do it again. He is a normal dog so that makes sense. The smallest dog (pictured) was able to break in. The thing is I'm not sure if I can blame the product. You see this little yellow lab is actually a rabid raccoon in a dog's body. Her intelligence, dedication and dexterity defy the laws of biology and physics. As you can see there is no remorse in her eyes, despite my being 8 months pregnant and needing to clean this up by crawling around on the floor. That isn't pictured because you can bet that if anyone else was home to take the photo, they would have been cleaning this up instead of me. In conclusion, who should splurge on this product? People without animals - absolutely! People with normal pets - you bet! People tricked into adopting a radicalized terrorist parading around in a cute dog disguise - definitely no.

The capacity is perfect and excellent quality. Touch free technology to open is a must. I really like the liner pocket, very easy to use and change the bag trash.

Love my trash can Its so easy to install and use

I've had this item for about five years. After two years, it stopped working, and I had to replace it. I bought another unit because I liked it so much. It's beautiful and functional. There's just one thing about it that bugs me and prevents me from giving it five stars: the lid opens too slowly. If you have something dripping and you take it to the trash can, it takes too long for the lid to fully open. I don't know why they made it open so slowly. Other than that, this is a great unit, although it is pricey.

30 gallon (113 L) bags are good fit for this "16" gallon (60 L) can. 2'6" x 2'8" fits very well with about 2 to 3 inches hanging over the outside of the top. These are available at dollar, grocery and big box stores everywhere. Store brands seem to work as well as name brands. The sample bags that come with the can are a VERY tight fit. The can? Oh, yes, the can. It's as advertised. Box arrived undamaged and factory sealed. Can was undamaged. Lid works properly and silently (for now). Foot pedal works properly and silently (for now). It has to sit about 3 inches from wall because hinge mechanism protrudes to the rear. Overall, it's a large, nice looking can that works well (for now). I like it. UPDATE; After about 3 months, still worklng fine. Someone asked about opening by hand .... Simply lift up on the ring/band that holds the bag in place. Works fine, I do it all the time. 2 YEAR UPDATE: ***** (5-star) HAS NOT MISSED A BEAT !!!! A few months ago Amazon was offering Hefty bags at a big discount, so I bought a few boxes. Works great. The can has been knocked around a bit and one of the cats likes to sleep on top of the can (???), but it is still shiney brite and shows no dings or scratchs. I like it !!!!
