Spectrum Is Vaulted!
Captain Scarlet has always been my favourite of the Supermarionation series. It's a bit of a cliche to say that it's dark, somewhat violent and a lot less cosy, humorous and 'safe' than any of its predecessors. This is because it is a story of a war, begun by a human's fear and a moment of weakness against a fearsome and powerful enemy who could as easily have been a friend. I own quite a few books (and DVDs and models...) on Captain Scarlet versus The Mysterons and initially saw this volume as 'just another recycled set of pictures'.On further consideration I then thought I' might as well buy it' because it was, after all a 50th Anniversary book, and I have been impressed by the Thunderbirds Vault. While it's true that a fair number of the pictures etc have been seen before, this new book is so much more than just another cash in..Each episode is briefly described and many of the facts and details concerning them are (to me, at least) new and of great interest.Beyond the screen, there are fascinating descriptions of the production process, screening schedules, personnel involved in the making of the series , recollections of staff at Century 21 Productions and, yes, new pictures..The book shows a great deal beyond what one would expect for a volume about a television programme, made fifty years ago, to be shown once on 405 line black and white screens. There is even a short section on the Captain Scarlet flavoured edition of The Golden Shot, a series which certainly hasn't stood the test of time...Merchandising is fully covered, as is the career of The Spectrum, the pop group who performed the 'singing' version of Barry Gray's end theme.. And talking of the end theme, Ron Embleton's paintings for the end titles have their own entry..All in all, given the mass of already available material concerning Captain Scarlet Versus The Mysterons this is a stand-out book. To me, the name Chris Bentley is synonymous with high quality, well researched and presented books and this is yet one more to add to that opinion.I recommend this book to any Captain Scarlet aficionado, and to anyone curious about the indestructible man, his Spectrum allies and the Mysteron menace.

Superb book for Scarlet fans
What a superb way to mark 50 years of Captain Scarlet - this books contains every nugget you might want to know about Gerry Anderson's 60s masterpiece and a lot more besides. When you read this wonderful coverage of the series you realise just how much was put into this kids programme and just how dark some of the story lines were. The merchandising pages will also take you back to your childhood - if you're of similar vintage to me - and remind you of the days spent acting out some plots with the cars, the uniform or even the dress-up books.Well done Mr Bentley, a labour of love that shows on every fantastic page!

Brilliant
Written by the same author of the UFO also tv series book (also by Anderson)Included are the the TV episodes, making off, how the puppets were madeHow the music was composed, how the scenes were created, what merchandise was available then decades ago and more recently when the was a renewed interest, who the guest voices,I was convinced that Cary grant was the original scarlet,in my teens of course he wasn't. And much more...Also how the new CGI captain scarlet came about, which I recently bought in blue ray a great fan of both, although the puppet version will be ground breaking because it was a darker form of fanderson, repeated in the TV live action UFO.If your a fan of scarlet its great

Fantastic Book!
This is a fantastic book!To me, Captain Scarlet was a major turning point in the work of Gerry Anderson. Not only did the puppets look more "real", (Captain Scarlet looking like Lloyd Cole!), there was a major improvement in the scripts. If you are a fan, this book has it all, it's brilliant!Episode guide, many new pictures, facts and figures, it's a must buy.

Calling all Captain Scarlet Fans
Lots of pictures in the same format as the Thunderbirds edition. Brief resume of the episodes, behind the scenes etc.All that is needed now is a Stingray Vault to complete the set.
