For food AND... psoriasis! This stuff is amazing.
Biona's coconut oil is a fantastic food product and we love to use it for everything from porridge to frying eggs. We love it so much I have it on "Subscribe & Save".But there is another benefit that I have recently discovered: soothing relief for psoriasis! For about 8 months I have been suffering with a really nasty outbreak of psoriasis that has taken over about 90% of my poor suffering scalp. To the point that I had my husband shave my head with the clippers so that I could get sun and medications onto my frazzled scalp. Several friends suggested that I also use coconut oil on my head, which I thought sounded a bit odd but I happened to have 1/4 tub of Biona Organic Raw Virgin Coconut Oil on hand... So, in the name of science, and seeing as how I had my hair buzz-cut so what is there to lose?, I have been experimenting with on the ol' noggin of mine. Here are the short term results so far:From what I have read and heard it is essential to use unrefined raw virgin coconut oil.The stuff melts fast via body heat when rubbed against the head. Uh, ok, feels odd grinding cooking oil into my head but at least it smells good! I had Elspeth helping me the other day and she started laughing, "Mommy! I feel like I'm going to cook your head!"And, um, if you use too much it then runs down your face and the back of your neck. You look as if you are sweating coconut hahahaha!!FIRST thing I noticed after a few days: a reduction in the production of flakes!! This is a huge deal because my scalp would be massively invaded by hordes of flakes within 12 hours of washing with the medicated shampoo. It was SO FRUSTRATING! Now I still get an invasion of new flakes but not nearly as **many** of the evil things.Coconut oil barely stings when it encounters the raw clawed-half-to-death bits of scalp where I have been very naughty and scratching endlessly. I felt great relief in my main "SomeoneShootMeNOW" insanely itchy areas after a few applications of ye olde coconut oil. Now my scalp feels "even", with no "big" areas that have much more flakes and more severe itching. That is a treat! (In other words, those really bad areas have mellowed out.)I've noticed great results in the "my head itches so much I want to throw myself through a wall" department! I would say that the coconut oil has taken my itch down about 60% - 70%... although I still struggle at night. (Note to self: park coconut oil tub next to bed. Ignore what happens to the pillow case haha! Yikes...)The coconut oil definitely loosens the flakes and makes their removal much less brutal. (The flakes love to stick like glue and your head can bleed like mad if you pray them away!) After grinding coconut oil into my scalp and leaving it there for several hours I find that a lot of the flakes come away with shampooing. Some hardy clingers are left behind but they are overall a lot smaller in quantity and size. The reality that I have several times *forgotten* that I have psoriasis of my ENTIRE HEAD says it all!!At this point in time I am not willing to forgo the medical treatment from my doctor but I will continue to use coconut oil as an in-between soothing balm during the day and night. I will also continue to soak my scalp in daily coconut oil treatments even after the psoriasis is gone/calm and I no longer need the pharmaceuticals. I will also continue to eat some in my porridge each morning for the many health benefits! (From a separate tub of course!!)

The only oil you should be cooking with.
Coconut oil is a fantastic product, which is very versatile. It's great to cook with. I use it for frying and baking. It does not leave a (strong) taste of coconut on food cooked in it, so even if you dislike the taste of coconut (as my girlfriend does, unfortunately), you can still use this product without worry. This product appears to be the best value for money, especially taking into account the Subscribe & Save programme Amazon runs too (extra ~£1.50 off if memory serves me well). The Tesco I shop at only sells the one brand of Coconut oil, which is £7.99 for 250g, so this works out much better value. It smells lovely and coconutty! I usually have a quick smell of the oil before I spoon some into a pan for frying as I love the smell of coconut. Others have mentioned that the oil appears to be inferior quality in comparison to other products, however it seems to be of similar quality in my opinion.I think most people have covered the point that Coconut oil is an extremely beneficial product to consume, with a multitude of health benefits. It is comprised mostly of saturated fats, but don't let that put you off - saturated fats are crucial building blocks of healthy, balanced diet. For those that are concerned about the toxins from the plastic jar leeching into the oil, I would suggest investing in a glass preserving jar and transferring the oil on delivery to it. This is what I did and it was pretty easy. I read on another review's comments that the plastic does not contain BPA, but still, thought it might be a useful piece of advice to some.

Health and beauty. This does them both!
I read Dr Fifes book on Coconut and decided to try it. Since I've been cooking with it, from soups to sautéed potatoes to pancakes, and in hot chocolate and coffee etc, I've been amazed.everything tastes good and is easy to digest and my hormones are more balanced( no more dry eye syndrome) and I feel good. It's also lovely as a moisturiser and body massage, and can be easily softened and mixed with essential oils for a relaxing massage. I also use it for Oil pulling( swilling it in your mouth for 15 minutes to neutralise nasty bacteria), and for sore skin and it does wonders for mature skin. I used my old organic face cream last week and couldn't believe how tight my skin felt afterwards, so I went back to this lovely soft and multipurpose oil. And very economical. I thoroughly recommend it and use it for everything. Sometimes there is a mild coconut taste if I cook meat with it, but I love coconut so not a problem. I know want to try coconut cakes and coconut flour. It's amazing rubbed into sore and dry skin on your feet and also good with psoriasis and fungal infections. I felt a sore throat coming on 2 days ago and garbled with it, and next morning I was fine. A lovely product. And now you can get 400 grs in glass jars so very economical.

A very good item to use that goes beyond cooking
This is a very good product. I just got it yesterday and I tried it already. I am actually not going to use this for cooking but rather on my hair as an oil and also on my skin to try and lighten some dark marks that I have. I was reading an article about this product which specified these uses and how good it was. Well I used some on my hair/scalp last night after I washed my hair and conditioned it. And I must say that my hair feels good now, compared to the way it was before. And I smell like COCONUTS! Which isn't a bad thing. I am hoping to stop my hair from being damaged and falling. This is the basis for having this product. And so far even after only ONE application, I can pretty much say that I am seeing improvement. So I'm satisfied with this for these purposes. Highly recommend!Update: 09.12.2015- I bought another one of these for cooking. This is a very good brand!
