Amazing as expected!!
Stevie Bell can never disappoint you, this book like the other truly devious books was really entertaining and thrilling.... Although I would say it was more character focused this time and less on the plot as the previous books were more plot based and I liked that more.... But altogether I loved seeing Stevie again...... (I Have no WORDS for the ending, Just Read it YOuRseLF!!!!!!!)

Intriguing Mystery but Better Investment in Stevie š
(Voluntarily reviewed an eARC and a physical copy of the book on For The Love of Fictional Worlds)Nine Liars was a lot of firsts for meš First #bookmail of 2023 āØš First Book for me by Maureen Johnson (Yes. I still have to read the Truly Devious Trilogy š«£) āØš First #buddyread of 2023 āØš First #buddyread with the lovely @letstalkbooksandmore š¤š¼ā¢And thatās why Nine Liars is a book that I will always remember; BUT I would always remember it for the simple fact that while I was invested in the cold case in the book; I was FAR MORE invested in the relationship of Stevie and David š¤ā¢For those like me, if you still havenāt read the Truly Devious Trilogy; Nine Liars while encompassing the same characters, can be absolutely read as a stand-alone mystery. And trust me, you will find yourself far more interested in the love life of Stevie as compared to the mystery itself. I know I did. š¤ā¢But it was THAT FREAKING ENDING that had me gasping and tbh, silently screaming for the next book immediately- I mean, you donāt end a book THAT WAY AND not expect the readers to IMMEDIATELY WANT the next š³

The mystery was lukewarm but I love Stevie.
I do not like YA mysteries and I am not good at continuing series. However, the Truly Devious series is the only exception to this.Nine Liars is the 5th book in this series. It follows Stevie going to London and visiting David there. And of course, thereās a case wait for her, to be solved.Back in 1995, nine friends from Cambridge Uni went to a country house and played a game of hide-and-seek at night. In the morning, two of their friends were found brutally murdered in the woodshed. It was thought to be a burglary but was it really a burglary? The case was never officially solved.First of all, when I started reading the book, I was so confused because we were following nine characters. It took quite some time to get used to those nine characters.I did like following Stevie and her friends on this journey, and also seeing her and Davidās relationship. I am totally invested in the characters. But the mystery, on the other hand, was kinda lukewarm to be honest. There were no red herrings and I like it when mystery thrillers give us some of those. I could not predict who the killer was and I felt underwhelmed when the killer was revealed. It felt like it came out of nowhere but at the same time, it did not feel like a plot twist either. But I will give this book an extra 1 star because this book was unputdownable for me. I finished it within 1 day!If I were to rate the book based on the mystery, Iād give it a 2.5 stars, but since I love Stevie, David, and all her friends, so I will give this book a 4 stars. I honestly cannot wait for the next books in this series!

Dark and cosy murder mystery!
*Thank you Harper Collins for sending me a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review*This book is a companion in the Truly Devious series. You donāt have to read the other four books, but I suggest reading them as they are classic cozy murder mysteries! This book is set in London and the story starts in 1995 where The Nine are going to the manorās house for a party. At first, I felt that introducing so many characters in the story at once could confuse the reader. But, that was not the case. The author did a great job of establishing the characters and giving their personalities an identity. In the book, there are statements from the six characters that were very interesting to read and a great addition to the story. There are character developments of Stieve and her friends. At some point, I observed that the author diverted a lot from the main murder and shifted the focus to Stieveās love life. So, that did not blend well. Stevie and her friends visit London as David invites them. The author shares the history of London which blends with the main murder. I really like the way she linked real history and murder.Maureenās world-building in this book was immaculate. It gave off dark and gruesome vibes while reading the book. I really enjoyed it and could not stop thinking about the story. I guessed the killer when there were 150 pages left. It is a very quick-paced read as I finished reading this in 3 days and didnāt even realize that it was a 450-page book! Sometimes a book can be unnecessarily long and it can bore in between, but this was not the case here. One thing after the other the story unravels smoothly. Lastly, I would like to say that, I would like to kill David soon. Read the book and you will know what I mean. What I Liked:The whole story is set in London. The blending of the history of London with the murder.Character build-up was so good, did not confuse me while I was reading.Dark and gruesome vibes in the story.Quick-paced read and the story unraveled smoothly. What I Did Not Like:The story kept diverting from the main murder and focused on the main characterās love life.I guessed the killer when there were 150 pages left, which is fine but then it kind of ruined the surprise element.

Okay but not as good as its predecessors
It was good. I read the book in a day or two, so obviously I enjoyed it. Was a bit bored at times with the present-day stuff, and way more interested in the flashback chapters; wish there'd been more of those. I also guessed the perpetrator quite early on, and no, I usually don't, at least as quickly. The ending was a bit disappointing, it just fell flat somehow. So it was a quick enjoyable book, but I was especting more
