A fantastic trip down White Hart memory Lane
This book brought tears to my eyes; talking about the Glory days, successes and lows and the final season, which conveyed feelings I had at certain moments in time when visiting that magic and emotional stadium. It was a home away from home, as I am sure the new stadium will become.Martin Lipton starts off at the beginning (always a good place to start) and gradually flows through the ages. He talks about the great players who graced that magic turf. He goes through Irvin Scholar’s reign and tells us how he meant well – and was one of the pioneers – when he purchased companies to complement Spurs business philosophy (which other clubs followed), and being one of the first to float a football club on the Stock Exchange. How Scholar purchased shares to take over the club and much more.He discusses Venables’ reign and failings and Sugar’s eventual ousting of his fellow partner. Finally selling his shares to ENIC and Levy. There is a section on the people behind the scenes and how the groundwork is carried out. There is even a piece about the press and of course Martin’s own perspective of the club/ ground and supporting Spurs himself. He talks about the famous Push & Run and our first League championship. He then moves swiftly on to the great Bill Nicholson era and the players that played under him: Jennings, Greaves, Perryman, Cliff Jones, the list goes on and on. From there he goes into the 70s, followed by the 80s and to the Finale. He talks about the protests, the good times and bad… and so much more. There is a chapter on Levy’s plans for a new stadium and his battles with Haringey Council, and talks of a possible move to Stratford (now the home of the Spammers) and the protests that followed.Managers coming and going under Scholar, Sugar and Levy, until a bright star started to shine over Southampton FC, but was quickly snatched to bring a new and positive vision to Spurs.Mr Lipton mentions the other events that graced our great arena; such as boxing etc.The final chapter is devoted to “The Finale” and that magnificence day that ended with a magic rainbow that glowed brightly over the stadium, to cop it all. I was a participant – along with many others – of that special day. But now we have to look to the future and a stadium that is fit for the 21st Century and beyond. A stadium that is equipped for Premier League life. A stadium that has a capacity of 61,559 (the biggest club stadium in London) that will hold Spurs magnificent army of loyal supporters. This book is about the history of a great ground, but it is only one chapter of something that will eventually be bigger, as we march forward to a glories future. The demolishment of White Hart Lane is not the end of the story. Once the bulldozers have demolished the stadium (as it already has), a phoenix will rise and a new beginning and a new dream for N17 will begin.I have been fortunate to have been part of White Hart Lane’s magnificent past (but not, alas, from the beginning… just the 60s), so it wasn’t surprising that emotions welled-up within me as I walked away from that ground on the 14 May 2017… Then – after an acceptable period - I started to smile as excitement arose within me as I went to the Lilywhite House to book my seat for the new stadium and a new future. At the present, while I wait for new beginning at a stunning 21st Century stadium, I am watching my team, guided by its influential manager, doing battles on the Wembley turf (after a shaky start), such as us beating the European Champions, one of the great teams of Europe, Real Madrid (3-1), to progress to the next stage of the European Champions cup.The future is bright, the future is Spurs. Read this book and enjoy!

A glorious book.
My compliments to the chef. It was another book, Hunter Davies' "The Glory Game," that sparked my interest in Tottenham. This book should, forgive the pun, spur others' interest in the team. A great history of the club and its former and future home.
