Every part of the book is very nicely illustrated but also very soundly documented. In particular, the tree portraits are not mere tree pictures. Indeed, the book is full of nice pictures, but each tree portrait shows its botanical portrait, as details of the tree leaves, flowers and seeds, or vignettes of other species in the same genus, and also its social portrait, as its economical role, or its place in popular culture. It is a book for all tree lovers, be they amateurs, students, or botanists.

This is a creation of beauty. Art in book form. The pictures, details and drawings throughout are exquisite. I purchased this for my father and have now ordered another for myself.
