Graphic: Inside the Sketchbooks of the World's Great Graphic Designers Paperback – 13 Sept. 2010

anyone who is passionate about not only design and graphics but the creative industry NEEDS to get this book. Its soul nurturing, mind expanding, its simply wow. You feel a connection and also one that reaffirms your own connection with your work and others. Sketchbooks are so important to me. I am currently at University doing Graphic design and i do a lot of scrapbooking and sketchbook work and this just reaffirms my own work and ideas. not only a great source for research material but just generally an interesting and beautiful book to own and look at. definitely a must buy

this book is both informative and colourful. it is a heavy volume and packed with interesting facts and pictures. anyone interested in graphic design in any form would find this volume interesting and informative.

This book has everything. I felt the quality of the book is really good as well, and it has been put together in what some people might call disorganised but for a Graphic Designer it is how the mind works. I would recommend this to anybody who feels that need to be inspired. The bonus is how it has a contens page which mean you can look for someone and then go forward.Great book.Highly recommended

Very good book and helpful

If you're into illustration, art and sketching, then this book will be right up your street. If you like thumbing through something different, then, again, this would be a good book for you. At 350 pages and at a size a little over A4, this is one hefty tome.In this book, approximately 100 (I haven't bothered to count them all) of the worlds leading graphic designers showcase some of the pages of their sketchbooks. Each contribution is prefaced with a paragraph or two of text outlining their philosophy to sketching. You'll get to see why they sketch, but that's about it - don't expect much more. The actual images are beautifully reproduced and cover all manner of illustrations and art. Again, way too many to even try to summarize in this review, but to give you snapshot: typography, website wireframes, scribbles, collages, photos.The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the same as that given by another reviewer - this book is heavily biased towards fine art and illustration. There's isn't much in the way of graphic design. Needless to say, it still makes for an excellent reference book and one that will provide a lifetime of inspiration. I also recently purchased An Illustrated Life: Drawing Inspiration from the Private Sketchbooks of Artists, Illustrators and Designers, which provides more balanced content and examples. But if you get them both then you're pretty much set.

Wonderful

I /love/ books of other people's sketches and ideas. I've got a small collection, mainly bought for inspiration. But out of all of them this is the one that really got under my skin and gave me that itch to start drawing again.I don't always love the styles of the designers, but I can appreciate their ideas and what they have to say about keeping a sketchbook. Overall it's just interesting and it gives you a little view on how they think.

Got this as a gift for my cousin for her birthday. I took a peak through it and it was great.

I bought this book for doodling/sketching inspiration. My doodles and sketches are now dramatically more inspired. It was a good purchase. Visually fascinating, informative and a great hub for discovering visually brilliant designers. It's the type of book that you can flip through casually or study closely with equally rewarding results. A great project. A must buy for doodlers/sketchers.

My daughter is going into graphic design and is facinated by sketchbooks, so I got this for her for christmas. It was intriguing and interesting to see how different people flesh ideas out and where inspiration comes from. She has since gotten everyone in her current design classes to buy this, as well as put on the suggested reading from her professor
