Highly recommend
The book simplistically shows soo many walks of life of a small town in a single page that one can easily spend 10-15 mins if not more.Animals, vehicles, different clothing, places, can be taught from this. This book can be enjoyed from 6m+.I read a review where they criticized nudity. In the attached pic, you can see the setting. It’s a painting in an art exhibition in cultural center.

a fabulous favorite!
It's kinda like Richard Scary's Busy Town but BETTER!!!! So much to look at and talk about. The same characters on each page and they each have an ongoing story. The book is captivating, charming and funny too! My grandchildren enjoyed this book for two years - kept going back to it!

A great visual story with plenty to keep your child interested!
This is a wonderful book and when it’s on my child’s bedside table we might read it nightly for a week. Some of the “story lines” are so subtle that after multiple looks at the book you will find yourself paging back and forth to see how a storybook plays out. It’s a picture book, but there are stories that wend their way through all of the pages or all of the seasons.I enjoy going through this book as much as my five-year old child does. It also makes me nostalgic for Germany, where I lived over twenty years ago, and is a neat way to show my child the small and large differences in landscape, daily life, buildings, and habitats of another country and culture. My only complaint is that after about two months of reading it one or two nights a week, some of the pages are coming loose from the binding. Because we’ve had many other books on heavy rotation in our household without similar problems, I’m disappointed this one isn’t so durable.

Worth every penny
We have shelves crammed with books and, after owning this one for about a month, this is the only book our 21 month old asks for by name, two and three times a day. "Town? Town?" We have spent HOURS looking at it and still find things to talk about. And we're only a quarter of the way through (since it's summer, we're only reading the summer section to stretch it out). The book is divided into four seasons, each of which has a page identifying some characters ("Suzy is having a birthday party" "Mildred is bringing a wagon to the flea market.") then about six double-page scenes set about 15 minutes apart (there are clocks in most scenes) with recurring characters in spots throughout town. You can follow mini story lines from scene to scene, you can play "I spy", you can count things, you can make animal and car sounds, you can explain what people are doing (how a fan works, why people are putting their bedding in the windows)... It's amazing for building vocabulary and there's plenty of humor throughout.I grew up on Richard Scarry books and loved (still love) their detailed scenes, but for now I am sticking to "Town" for my young toddler because it depicts real people in real situations rather than imaginary ones (pigs driving cars shaped like pencils or whatever).

Great book for kids who love to play I-spy
Our kid loves these big illustrations where lots of stuff is going on. Finding new interesting parts of each picture, then progressing to following the set-up stories from one page to another is such a great fun. You can tell it was drawn with great care to detail, instead of just for the sake of creating noise. One of our go-to books for long road trips!PS Lots of low ratings seem to be from uptight helicopter parents who think that exposing kids to the realities of the world is going to scar them for life. Yes, somewhere among dozens of things going on in the book there is a person smoking, and it took me a while to find out what "nudity" people were so offended by (it's a rather cartoonish little drawing in a picture gallery). All in all, there is absolutely nothing here even remotely as offensive as what you'd regularly see on a street these days.

Favorite book of my toddlers
We love this book so much. Both of my 2 - 4 year old boys have loved it. There are so many stories going on, without any words. Plus the littles love looking for the parrot or cat or the bus, etc, on each page. We originally had the "Winter" book from my sister in France, so I was sure to grab this year-round one when an English version came out. This book has all four seasons. I only read one season to my son at a time, as we can spend a long time per page; but many characters have stories that continue to grow through all the seasons. What a lovely book!

Infinity on every page
I found this at the library and immediately went out and bought a copy for my 2-year old. That was 14 months ago, and we've read it numerous times since then.It occupies the rare position of being not only her favorite book to read at bedtime, but mine as well (a welcome reprieve from Dora and Fancy Nancy!)All four seasons are lovingly depicted -- and lushly detailed, but never too busy like in a "Where's Waldo?" book. Many reviewers have pointed out that something new is observed each time -- that's an understatement. We read the Winter section (1/4 of the book) this morning and spent 45 minutes on it, looking in windows for characters we've not yet met, combing over the landscape to find animals we've not yet noticed. That should give an indication of how rich this book is.It is set in Germany (with no text whatsoever, except for signs in the scenes, rendered in English), and there is a character or two smoking (amid 50-100 other adults in a scene not smoking) and a postage-stamp sized cartoonish Renoir nude hanging in a museum (complete with little girl giggling at it). Your parenting skills can adequately handle this, I'm guessing! Somehow I survived all those Little Golden Books where every father figure had a pipe stuck in his mouth, LOL.Bottom line: best children's book, ever.

Fasinating 'busy' book
Wonderfilled engrosing book of everyday life in the town. An 18 month old grandchild has now followed his older sister in selecting this for regular scrutiny - for it vigorously stimulates and rewards observation.

Wonderful
Just to add to the other reviews, this is a wonderful book, full of humour and warmth, which our 18 month old is fascinated by and we really enjoy too. You see new delightful details every time you look at it, the amount of thought that has gone into this is really impressive.I wasn't too sure about the slightly naive drawing style to start with, but it's grown on me, and perhaps feels more accessible to children as it's reminiscent of a children's drawing. With hindsight I wish we'd splashed out on the individual volumes for each season (I think these are only available in German, although as others have said, this doesn't matter as there is so little text) - it would have been nice to have them in board book format for greater durability. We have the 'Night time' volume in German/board book format and that works brilliantly. But this single volume (containing the four seasons) is excellent nevertheless.

Toddler loves it!
I wasn't sure about getting this book as it's quite pricey, but took the plunge as I've seen it recommended so many times. It's been well worth the money - my 2 year loves it, it's easily his favourite book. In fact, it gets brought to me so often to 'read' (there aren't really any words, just lots of pictures to talk about) that I'm tempted to hide it to get a break!!

Beautiful book - engaging and entertaining
This book is so interesting and engaging. There are characters that you follow in each 'season' and there are new details that you notice every time you look again on the same pages. It kept my little one very interested and there are a lot of things to point at and talk about - great for developing vocabulary and keeping little ones entertained.

In the Town All Year 'Round
For me, this is the best children's book ever. Especially if you are dealing with more than one language in your household: you can "read" (tell) the story in the language of your choice as the book has almost no words (except to introduce certain characters at the very beginning of each chapter). My kids and I always discover something different to focus on and you can follow different story lines as you go. This makes the reading exciting and different each time. The book came in great condition and was exactly as described, Highly recommended!
