The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling

This is a superb informative book. It explains many aspects of nature and picture making in wonderful depth. Maybe too much for a beginner in both art and nature, but a joy to read and to realise the pictures.Anyone with an interest in the natural world will find a volume of joy in this book. A superb author for sure.

Bought this for a present for my Mum. She's delighted with it and so am I. As soon as I opened the book, I just thought "Wow, this is crammed! This is brilliant value!" Mum and I have seen many of his videos on Youtube (which are brilliant as well), and he's an excellent teacher. Problem is, I'm usually disappointed by people who make videos not being terribly good at making books. Not in this case! The depth, quality, thoroughness and passion is just as apparent in this book as in any of his videos. And of course, being such a good artist, it's beautiful as well! If you were to work through this book in a systematic way, practicing everything he teaches you, I wouldn't be surprised if it took you a year to get through it. It's a fascinating book for non-artists as well, being beautiful and informative, and it's perfect for a coffee table.

Nice to have a different take on drawing. This guide provides lots of useful information on how to keep a journal. It takes doing a day to day journal to a much more informative level and worthwhile reference. There is so much information, beautifully illustrated, in an easy to understand way that I found I could dip in and out and I have found really useful tips that I have used in my own work as an artist.The book has undoubtedly heightened my observing skills and made my notating stronger.I am happy to recommend this book, so much so that I am ordering another as a present to a keen birdwatcher.

Superbe book for anyone wishing to get into nature journaling. I have Claire Walker Leslie and Cathy Johnson's books which are good but they are not in the same league. Muir Laws provides so much more information. Like his videos on YouTube the book has extensive coverage both in depth and in illustration and you cannot avoid getting thoroughly hooked. I cannot recommend this book enough it's worth every penny. I took up nature journaling as a retirement hobby in my sixties the book is my bible I also bought the book for my granddaughter who is 8yrs old. It's never away from her and she has produced wonderful drawings with its help. So a great book for any age or ability.

If you have heard of John Muir Laws you probably have this already, if not and you are interested in drawing birds download the Kindle example or track him down on YouTube and realise what you have been missing then buy this book.

You would be hard pushed to find a book on this subject that was more thorough and detailed than this. Jack Laws is an expert in his field and once you have this, you probably wont need any other info on the subject. It looks good and is clear and easy reading too.

Mi maestra de ilustración científica me recomendó este Libro y estoy muy feliz de seguir Su recomendación. El libro te guía desde cómo dibujar animales hasta plantas y hongos. También ofrece una guía sobre distintas técnicas de dibujo y qué materiales se pueden utilizar para la ilustración. El único pero que le pongo es que hay muchos ejemplos de aves y pocos de mamíferos, en especial pocos primates, que es el orden que estudio. Pero en general el libro está excelente.

Het boek kwam helaas totaal beschadigd binnen……..De inhoud viel mij niet mee, had meer botanisch tekenen verwacht, dit is meer gericht op dieren !

Es fühlt sich an wie ein Lehrbuch für die Schule.Ich wünschte wir hätten Lehrbücher gehabt wie dieses in Kunst wir hatten gar keine und die Lehrerin die wir hatten hat sich meist missverständlich ausgedrückt man konnte selten etwas lernen.Das ging der ganzen Klasse so nicht nur mir trotzdem hatte ich immer eine 2 auf dem Endzeugniss.Tut mir leid ich schweife ab man kann in diesem Buch eine Menge lernen es lässt dich Dinge hinterfragen,Techniken lernen,vereinfacht das Objekt dein Wahl zeichnet und so viel mehr.Ich war skeptisch ob ich es mir kaufen sollte aber es ist leicht verständlich wenn man Englisch Kenntnisse mitbringt.

Livre très intéressant. Une partie généraliste avec des conseils pour l'observation, la tenue de notes, la disposition des notes sur le journal, le matériel à utiliser, les techniques avec ces différents types de matériel, des notions sur la couleurs et la composition. Une partie concerne la réalisation des dessins et peintures selon les sujets (animal, végétal, paysage). Le tout sur un ton à la fois pédagogique mais sans emphase et aussi ludique. À noter également la démarche respectueuse de la nature et méditative de l'auteur.Super livre que je recommande.

Libro molto ispirante. Dà sia indicazioni su come disegnare la natura sia spunti di riflessione su quanta poca attenzione mettiamo a volte nel mondo che ci sta intorno. L’inglese è molto facile anche per chi non lo conosce benissimo
