200 pages of EXPERT detail
I am not qualified to judge this book by an acknowledged expert, but as a published author of a technical book on another subject myself I see clearly that Peter Macdonald's book must be at the very top in its subject area. It is both wide-ranging and detailed.Beginner grafters should read first Larry Southwick's little book in the Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin series, also available on Amazon at a very low cost for quite a lot of information. Peter Macdonald's book comes later. (Do not buy Larry Eagleman's empty book.)Eric Franklin

Does what it says on the tin. Great manual of plant grafting.
I've recently been reading some books on grafting and plant propagation. While many of the propagation books I've looked through and read include sections on grafting, it's nice to see this book (and it's not the only one) dedicated entirely to grafting. This book has a lot of text that is complemented with photographs. From reading this book, it's clear that the author knows just about everything there is to know about grafting. The book begins, for instance, with a detailed history of grafting -- and I'm talking 100s of years of history, condensed down into several sections. But have no fear: this is still a practical book about grafting. It covers when to do it, why to do it, how to do it, with what to do it.It's a very nice book and I will refer back to it for years to come.

Confusing layout
I bought this and returned it. It's full of good, detailed information but for me it didn't add much to what I have in other titles, e.g., "The Reference Manual of Woody Plant Propagation". The layout and organisation has some issues: in particular, the chapter/section headings are indistinct. It could also do with more line drawings as it's not clear what is going on in some of the photographs.

Good depth of treatment with appropriate scientific reference.
This manual is written with great clarity, backed up by meaningful illustrations. It provides an informative level of technical detail, which is just what I was looking for with a view to improving my current practice with top fruit. I might even be tempted to experiment with some of the ornamentals now!

General knowledge of grafting
Very good read, this book is a great way to research grafting in general aspects since fruit trees for production and great tricks for indoor ornamentals like the ficus plant!
