Excellent scales - accurate when checked against a full DXA scan!
Firstly excellent scales - simple to use, good price and very repeatable measurements. Weight is a perfect match with the scale at my doctors and is precise down to 0.2 lbs / 0.1kg. Body fat, etc is very difficult to measure accurately with scales like these that rely on conductivity but with both the feet and hand sensors it has the best chance of accurate measurements. However, yesterday I had the opportunity to find out exactly how accurate these scales are. I had something called an DXA (or DEXA) scan which is a form of mini XRay that tells you exactly how many grams of fat, lean tissue and bone you have in each limb and AFAIK is the most accurate way of working out body composition short of an autopsy. PS: it's not a good idea to mess around with XRays for none critical conditons so this isn't a recommendation of DXA scanning but given I have had one it does tell us how accurate these scales are... It'll probably be obvious from these numbers that I'm not fit (yet) so don't laugh - I'm working on it :) Background info: Male, 34, Caucasian Height: 177cm Weight: 81.9kg Body Fat: 29.6% (Omron scales), 32.8% (DXA Scan) Visceral Fat: 11% (Omron scales), 8.8% (DXA Scan) Lean Mass: 33.6% (Omron scales), 63.0% (DXA Scan) So, the body fat percentage for me at least was very accurate. The visceral fat was an overestimate but not by a huge amount. The Lean mass is miles off, however I think there's a difference in what's being measured here. I believe the Omron scales are estimating muscle whereas the DXA scan is measuring all lean tissue (ie: everything that isn't bone or muscle = organs, ligaments and muscle). Overall I'm very pleased with the accuracy and repeatability of these scales and for measuring relative changes in body composition they should be very helpful. Good stuff: * High accuracy measuring weight and total body fat percentage. * Decent measure of internal body fat (the really bad stuff). * Simple to use - step on to get your weight, press the profile button on the handle to measure everything. * 4 profiles/users * Shows current readings and last readings for comparison * Measures in kg and lbs to 0.2lb and 0.1kg accuracy * Quick ~5 seconds for measurements * AA batteries (included) * 3 year warranty Bad stuff: * Only remembers last measurement (seperate memory for each profile/user) so need to keep a pad of paper to track long term changes * Electrical conductivity measures can be heavily affected by water content so you really need to way at around the same time each day under the same conditions - ie: drinking water before measuring changes the results. * Doesn't send results to phone/computer/whatever - personally I think this is an advantage as it's simple and does exactly what you need but some people really want an app on their phone *shrugs*.

A Comprehensive Fitness Tool with Potential Limitations
Omron BF511 Blue Family Body Composition Monitor: A Comprehensive Fitness Tool with Potential Limitations The Omron BF511 Blue Family Body Composition Monitor presents itself as a versatile and advanced device for monitoring various aspects of physical health and fitness. With its ability to measure body fat percentage, BMI, visceral fat classification, skeletal muscle percentage, and resting metabolism, this monitor offers a comprehensive assessment of an individual's body composition. One of the key strengths of the Omron BF511 is its 8-sensor technology, which utilizes both hand and foot sensors to capture measurements from the entire body. This approach potentially provides more accurate and reliable data compared to devices that rely solely on foot or hand sensors, making it a valuable tool for those seeking detailed insights into their fitness levels. The product's family-friendly design is another notable feature, allowing users as young as six years old to benefit from its monitoring capabilities. However, it's important to note that the visceral fat and skeletal muscle classification features are limited to individuals between the ages of 18 and 80, which may be a drawback for those outside of this age range. The ability to measure weight in both pounds and kilograms, with a maximum capacity of 150 kg (330 lbs), adds to the monitor's versatility and makes it accessible to a wider range of users, regardless of their preferred unit of measurement. However, it's essential to consider potential limitations or drawbacks associated with this product. While the device offers a comprehensive array of measurements, the accuracy and reliability of these readings may be influenced by various factors, such as hydration levels, body composition, and individual physiological variations. Users should be aware that the results provided by the monitor may not be as precise as those obtained through professional medical assessments or specialized equipment. Additionally, the product description does not provide information regarding the monitor's connectivity or data storage capabilities. In an era where fitness tracking and data analysis are increasingly important, the lack of integration with mobile applications or cloud-based platforms could be seen as a drawback for tech-savvy users who prefer to track their progress and share data seamlessly. Furthermore, the cost of the Omron BF511 Blue Family Body Composition Monitor may be a deterrent for some consumers, as high-quality fitness monitoring devices can be relatively expensive compared to more basic scales or body composition analyzers. Overall, the Omron BF511 Blue Family Body Composition Monitor presents itself as a comprehensive and feature-rich tool for monitoring various aspects of physical health and fitness. Its 8-sensor technology, family-friendly design, and versatile weight measurement capabilities are notable strengths. However, potential limitations such as accuracy concerns, lack of connectivity features, and cost considerations should be carefully evaluated to determine if this product aligns with individual needs and expectations.

Great product at a great price
As an ex-personal trainer, body composition is very important to me. My fiancee is a fitness finatic as well so this was a must for us...especially at this price. My youngest step daughter has also joined in with the monthly 'weigh-ins' after seeing mum and step dad doing it. I think it is very important for her to understand that to a certain extent, your body mass is not important; it is what that mass is made up of that matters. This Omron monitor reads everything I need to know to reassure me that my training is still being effective and that adaptation has not taken place...so my results should remian positive. If your not to bothered about body fat etc...it also has a weight only function! The display is very easy to use and what a bonus that you can store 4 peoples stats in it to make it even quicker to get your reading; the machine also remembers the previous weigh-ins statistic for quick reference...bonus =) Overall a great bit of kit that im sure the whole family will use for years to come. My only negative which justifies the 4 out of 5 is that it does not read water mass / percentage...I think it is important to know you are hydrated or if you want to be negative; dehydrated. PLEASE REMEMBER THOUGH...WEIGHING YOURSELF CAN BE OBSESSIVE AND LEAD TO EATING DISORDERS...FACT!!!; PLEASE BE ESPECIALLY CAREFULL IF LETTING CHILDREN USE THEM!!! ALTHOUGH I USE THIS MACHINE MONTHLY; AS A PERSONAL TRAINER I ONLY WEIGHED / ANALYSED BODY COMPOSITION OF CLIENTS EVERY QUARTER...THIS IS SUFFICIENT TIME FOR VISIBLE RESULTS AND SHOULD KEEP YOU MOTIVATED TOWARDS YOUR FITNESS / HEALTH GOALS. But most of all...Exercise should be fun, not just goal related. If you enjoy it and persue it, results will come in time; internal as well as external.

Surprised by the accuracy.
Excellent quality and accuracy. I’ve measured the results against the medical machine at my gym and it was a like for like result. Didn’t expect to be this accurate for the price. Tested another brand before this one and the results were way off.

Omron BF 511 scales are everything you need to track weight loss . Lose fat . Build muscle .
All scales are only a guide . But these scales are accurate enough to use properly and give real weight readings which are accurate . All others readings are useful and can be used in conjunction with diet and exercise . I enjoy using these scales . No app needed . Great scales and easy to use . I wanted these scales for the visceral part of the scales data because the important part in any diet is losing fat and building muscle . These scales are just great for that reason alone . I concentrated and burning fat by weight lifting and buying a skipping rope and went on hard exercise schedule to burn the fat and track it on the visceral fat part in this scales . To be lean you have to get the number on the visceral scale down to 5 . It definitely works and I watched the number drop . I still have a lot to do , but it works . Definitely recommend these omron B511 scales no problems at all . Just keep your arms out at 90 degrees went using to hand part of the scales . I am really happy to have brought these scales . For the price they are an excellent buy . Don't keep them in the bathroom . Moisture will damage them . Other than that . Brilliant set of scales . 👍

Excellent bit of kit.
Excellent piece of kit, does what it says on the tin, I have been using a Wii with a Wii board for 6 months to measure weight & BMI, now that I have these scales I was a bit alarmed to find out that the Wii was 5lb out (under), getting on these scales straight after the Wii showed a 5lb increase! These scales are pretty accurate after putting some "known" weights on them, so bit more weight loss needed than I thought then! I bought these scales after seeing Michael Mosely using them on his TV program about the 5:2 diet, and also doing a bit of research myself, there very easy to use and clear and easy to read, all measurements show current and previous measurements, so you have a comparison straight away. I put all the measurements into MyFitnessPal as this will keep a log of them for you and draw a graph to represent the information as time goes on, or just put it into a spreadsheet or just plain write it on a piece of paper. All in all a good bit of kit if your looking to lose a bit of weight and see what your BMI is like not to mention fat & visceral fat etc, my figures were very alarming to say the least, so very pleased I took the plunge to confront my health head on with this bit of excellent kit.

Appears to be inconsistent
The idea of this device is good but not sure about the consistency of the results it produces. Like others have said, it only operates in Pounds or Kilos and unfortunately not stones but that is only a small part of the story. The other areas of measurement that it gives are in theory the most important parts. The problem is, you can take readings 3 times in a row and get 3 different sets of results!! The results may not be wildly different each time but enough to make you seriously doubt the accuracy of what it is telling you. I could understand if muscle mass or body fat varied each time depending on how the electrical impulses were able to travel round your body but surely my weight shouldn't be able to vary 3 times inside 2 minutes!! I was going to return it for a refund but considering it was pretty cheap, I thought I would keep it and use it in conjunction with a more conventional set of scales!

Accuracy really ropey and overpriced
Accuracy very poor. I'd give it a higher score if it was much cheaper as it's still ok for a baseline. If following same timeframes each day the results including weight can vary. Even stepping on again straight after gives different results. I know what I'm doing with this stuff so I know it's not user error. Also possible the model I have is faulty. This model only allows readings in lbs or kg, bit stone and lbs which is common for the UK. I might return it as the cost is so high for what it offers. That said the device itself is sturdy and feels well built, it'll probably operate for years, but operating for years badly is still kinda useless.
