Lets Look At The Whole Package
I can understand the frustrations: you buy this to find the packaging is awful and is not going to protect your already expensive collection, but lets look at the reason why this is a good DVD set to own.For a start, it's really well illustrated, plenty of pictures, and fun packaging. OK it's not easy to get the disks out, but it's functional. The season 12 book is cool too, comic book like and has plenty of information you want to know about the series.Secondly, this is still a funny season, episodes like HomeR where Homer finds he has a crayon in his skull, and Worst Episode Ever where Comic Book Guy finds he fancies Skinner's mum is also very funny. Lisa climbing a tree for a boyfriend was also quite a funny moment too, so yes, there's plenty here to enjoy.Thirdly, extras, I love the Comic Book Guy: Best Scenes Ever featurette, where we get 9mins of the best Comic Book Guy moments, "excuse me, no banging your head on the counter please", he's just such a dysfunctional geek; but that's why we like him. I also like the fact there's deleted scenes and plenty more fun to be had with this after the episodes have been watched. In total, I have enjoyed 4 nights of 3hrs or so watching this, so it's worth every penny.OK, the packaging is bad; it's expensive, but it's a good show and I know I will come back to this time and time again, the show was starting to go slightly downhill, but if you love The Simpsons like I do, you'll know how great each of these episodes are. Having the tactile head version is cool too, but not easy storage wise.I highly recommend this, though Fox, please make the DVD storage side of this better please! We don't want to scratch our pride and joy, our Simpsons DVD collection.

Stunning season for the Simpsons
I now have all 12 seasons on DVD and each keeps getting better than the last. As we move further down the seasons, the stories keep getting funnier and the wit keeps improving with an array of more subtle jokes in these episodes. Particular mention should go to a couple of episodes, Pokey Mom with the voice of Michael Keaton is hilarious with Homer also in a ridiculous side story, Tennis the Menace is worth watching just to see the trick Homer tries to pull off on the tennis court. Most ridiculous episode (and totally brilliant) has to go to Simpson Safari which has crazy plot twists that are as funny as they are mad! Overall the best DVD set so far and any Simpson fan will not be disappointed. Some cool extra stuff on there too and always interesting and fun to hear the commentary if you have time.

Post-peak but still packing plenty of very good stuff
The Simpsons is really really really.. good. Surely the greatest comedy show ever and with the quality and popularity they've had for around two whole decades they are in a league of their own. They had a lot of seasons where practically every episode was top notch. As many others have pointed out though, once they got past season 9 and 10 the quality started to wane. The best episodes aren't as good as the best episodes in earlier seasons; there's a lower proportion of top quality to less than top quality episodes; and the poorer episodes are poorer than the poorer episodes of earlier seasons. As time has gone on these trends have continued in that direction. This is entirely understandable given the vast amount of themes and issues already explored, and cultural references and jokes already used. For all that, season 12 still has loads of very good episodes and lots of good stuff in the less than great episodes. Certainly it will be added to my collection. I'm not sure if there'll come a point where I think enough's enough, but I'm certainly not there yet and I don't think I will be for at least another couple of seasons after this one. It remains to be seen though whether I can refrain from buying the boxsets after that - I'm feeling pot-committed collection-wise already so I'll probably buy everything they ever release. Thankfully it's not dilemma time yet though, because as I've said, this is a very good season and well worth buying to continue a collection or as a stand-alone season.

Pros and cons of season 12
Pros:-Detailed and colourful graphics.-All comic booked themed down to the finest details, i.e. the small leaflet that acts as a episode guide.-Great range of episodes. Then again I suppose it's all down to personal taste!Cons:-From the 10th season onwards, the simpsons has taken a leap from it's previous episodes. Modernised references and jokes are frequently used.-There are a few random guest appearences that jump into the story line, almost to keep the story going when it starts to wear thin.-The packaging. The packaging without question is a big problem if you wish to keep your DVD in great condition. Due to the size of the slots that the DVD's fit into, it's completely inevitable that they're going to end up getting scratched. I've only took the discs out twice, and already I can see the scratches appear. I don't understand why they haven't altered the packaging considering they will undoubtfully of have had numberous complaints by now! But ah well... what will be will be. This may sound like a minor complaint, but honestly, if you're picky about keeping your DVD's in good condition, this will definitely bug you :-( Many other amazon customers have shared the same concern, so I would really consider this before you buy.Overall though, if you're a die hard simpsons fan who is eager to get a hold of a copy of the 12th season, then I'd urge you too. You won't be dissapointed with the episodes unless you prefer the older classics, and due to the beautiful graphics on the packaging, you could probably overlook the disc problems :-)Hope this is helpful!
