Laguiole Design Corkscrew - Waiter's Friend Bottle Opener. 3-in-one Wine Opener, Bottle Opener and Foil Cutter.

(Update 12 Sep 2021: after having used this ‘wine-key’ or ‘waiter’s friend’ about ten times the following, painful design mistake was discovered: once the foil cutter has been used and returned, the lever action will raise the cutter’s edge just enough to cut into your palm … ergo, I cannot recommend this product!) - Close-ish and good-ish copy of a Forge de Laguiole (have a look at their website) but not a Laguiole. Nowadays, Amazon have at least managed to make the seller/manufacturer (?/Chinese …) add in their little bit of advertising copy that this a Laguiole-‘style’ or -‘design’ knife/corkscrew. HOWEVER, the corkscrew worm is of good quality and the price extremely low for what it is. Note also, what others in here have said: not as nimble, the serrated edge of the cutter isn’t up to it and very very stiff to pull out. - Where would I put this in the overall scheme of things? Corporate presents of the better kind; something VW might add to a welcome pack to one of their press functions … not Mercedes. - Would I still buy the real thing? Of course.

The cheapest Laguiole corkscrew on the Laguiole website is 160 euro, with a top price of around 300. You don't need to be a genius to work out that this isn't a Laguiole. The two-step operation, for a start, is not featured on any corkscrew I saw on the Laguiole website. (They all had 'Laguiole' stamped on, as well.) The headline, in my opinion, is incorrect. The bullets underneath seem to be a little more accurate. Overall, some readers might feel that the text was crafted to confuse the unwary.Taking this product 'as is', and forgetting about the product name, it appears to be well made and feels solid. The corkscrew and lever arms fold-out smoothly, and so does the foil cutter. For the asking price it seems fair value ... but if you want the genuine article, be prepared to pay a lot, lot more. Two stars off for borderline marketing ethics.

Beautiful little tool. ive used a variety of cork removers over the years, some of which are hugely over engineered for such a simple task and still not easy to use. This has a super feel to it - nicely made, weighty, precise and shiny! Easiest cork remover I ever used - its a 2 step action, first rest the shorter side on the neck and push down on the handle, then switch to the longer side and pull up. Its easier to do than explain!A couple of niggles that do not detract from the overall rating - I have light wood on one side and dark on the other, and the foil cutter is sufficiently difficult to pull out (with a thumbnail, like a pen knife) that I have to use a blunt knife edge as I fear for my nail coming off!

This is great. Has a double lever. A small one on one side and a longer one on the normal end.This allows you to get the corkscrew right in and get better leverage.The longer arm allows the complete pulling out of the Cork.

Lovely product however it came in a thin cheap cardboard box as it was for a gift I then had to source a package before gifting.

Great product, provides a stylish alternative to regular boring waiters friends. The screw is straight and solid, the knife when under pressure bends the wrong way, the longer arm should have teath ever slightly longer as it often slips off bottles.

For the money, this is hard to beat.There are some minor niggles: the pivots that the cork levers are anchored to aren't quite true but this is an *excellent* bit of kit for the money.Superior to many higher-priced alternatives.
