looks good, but hurts a bit
i gave this as a gift to my brother and he have had this sandal for over a year now. i got the zilch sandal for women. however, i have not worn it as much since this is a seasonal sandal (can't wear it during winter time). i actually bought 3 pairs (1 each for my siblings). i really like the looks of this sandal as it can be worn on any occasion (with skimpy shorts or board shorts as well as jeans). i only wear this for walking/hiking and not for running and without socks. the feel of the sandal is good for me - didn't give me any chafing even during the first time i used it. however, i am giving it only 3 stars since my brother and sister got chafed by the toe and on the midfoot (arch) area where the middle diagonal strap is. i would not attribute the chafing problem to the size since the sizes we each have, fit us perfectly. my bro and i are not flat footed while my sister is.

close but no cigar
My wife! not fomd of this style of sandal for a man. {toe strap} I think this is a good sandal and the straps are actually comfortable even though they look like they are not. I've tried two sizes and the 11 had a tighter toe strap and hit me in the joint of the big toe. The 10.5 hit me in the web, but was a looser fit. What to do? The foot bed is nice, comfortable but not too soft. Outsole looks good and grips well on a tile floor at least. Only wore them long enough to come to the conclusion that it's hard to find a flat sandal without ridiculous arch support and wavy foot bed and heel toe drop. The "chacos" I saw in the store were quite heavy. The Teva does fit well near the little toe. That's a big plus. I may yet have to try these again since the local store search is fruitless. Amazon service, as good as always.

Caused Blisters
I really wanted to love this sandal. I am getting into the minimalist / barefoot type shoes and own a couple of other pairs (shoes not sandals). At first, it was OK but it took some time getting used to the toe strap around the big toe, but didn't cause any discomfort. Then the straps across the main area started making blisters on the tops of both feet. I had only walked around for a bit in the Mall. I had to switch to my New Balance Minimus (which are my favorite pair of shoes). Also, not that I am saying the sandal is heavy, but I feel they could have made the shoe more lightweight. To me, they do not feel any lighter than any other sandal or flip flop I have worn. While this isn't a deal breaker I just think there is room for improvement. If minimalist "shoes" (with upper) can be lighter than this sandal, they can make improvements.I appreciate the attempt by Teva but they need to go back to the drawing board with this one. I don't have thick or wide feet and I made sure the sandals were properly adjusted (not too tight or loose). Hopefully they will make improvements and release one this year that eliminates that issue. The only way I could use this shoe would be for really short walks.

Almost perfect as a minimalist sandal.
First the positive: The soles on these are very flexible and have very good ground feel. Two very important things in any minimalist shoe. And as thin as the soles are, they have a cushy, spongy feel that is very pleasing. The negative: Some have complained about the over-the-toes strap and the big toe loop. The over-the-toe strap has noticeable seams in it and these can dig into your feet to cause blisters and irritation. The big toe loop can also cause irritation for some. I find that both of these problems are mitigated by sliding your heel as far back as possible before tightening the heel strap. By sticking to this, I can walk in these sandals for hours without irritation and even run in them.If it weren't for the irritations listed above, these would be five-star shoes. But they are still better than any other sandal I have seen from a big name shoe manufacturer. I expect to wear them a lot this coming Summer.

Good Sandal, order 1/2 size smaller
I bought these sandals for a number of uses, and am reporting on their effectiveness in each role:Trail shoes:Good, they were light and sturdy, and I like the way they feel on my feet, especially when doing a lot of river crossings and traversing rock. They got muck under the foot, but that's a sandal for ya'Water Shoes:Should have gotten a half size smaller...the toe loop goes about halfway up my big toe, and slips off when I brush up against rocks or attempt to kick thru the water...i.e. swimming...they are comfortable though. They don't keep any sediment out because of the low profile though, which can be annoying.Everyday Shoe:Excellent, they make a great summer shoe, or just a house shoe. People comment on the loop as it is somewhat of a an oddity, but once you get past the slipping out feeling (order 1/2 size small) it is great. Tough construction with comfortable straps.

Perfect Fit if adjusted right
The Zilch Sandal is just as described. It is minimal but protects the bottom of the foot and is easy to run in. I am 86 years old. Jogging in the sandal using the barefoot form of running reduces strain on the knees. The real trick is sizing the sandal, and then adjusting the straps to keep the toes from shifting forward or back, taking advantage of the minimum contour at the heel. In measuring the foot, putting the heel of your foot against the wall, measuring in centimeters to the the tip of the toe, and ordering the exact length as shown on the sizing chart, will give you a perfect fit. Once you learn how to adjust the straps, you can wear the sandal all day without discomfort. So size is critical. It is absolutely amazing how well the designers have engineered the Zilch.

Love these; this is my second pair
This is my second pair of these sandals. I've literally worn the other pair into the ground by wearing them constantly for a couple of years. They're expensive but very comfortable (especially if you're into the 'barefoot' feel). The various different straps etc are adjustable so they fit really well as you'd expect from a walking sandal, but they are much less 'heavy/blocky' feeling than most walking sandals. Not great when they get wet (inner sole gets slippery) but I think that's normal for a sandal.

Anyone know of anything similar still available?
These were fantastic. Comfortable, the toe strap loop meant it held to your foot really well, and unlike every other sandal out there, it didn't rub partly because of the positioning of the straps and partly because of the clever soft double material loop.If anyone knows where you could still get some or anything similar, leave a comment.

Very Light.
These sandals are light and comfortable, I will only be using them on holiday (no running for me!) but they are exactly what I was looking for, lightweight, easy to wear and something which will dry out in minutes if the I get them wet. I have never worn sandals with a toe strap before and while it took some getting used to is is not uncomfortable. In my opinion these are a better option than the normal rugged, rather chunky sports sandal. I previously had worn a faily minimal pair from Merrel and was having problems finding a replacement having finally worn these out after 10 years - the Zilch are perfect.

Cutter
It's though a dangerous sandle as I sustained a cut due to the sharp front closing straps ...Teva this straps are surposed to be very soft without cutting edges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three Stars
I loved them but the sole wore out very quickly (in one season).
