Excellent aid to putting your child through entrance exams
I purchased this pack and a few more in the summer ahead of my son's participation in the entrance exams for the various Grammar schools in Trafford. I'd bought the Variety Pack 2 from one of the schools on their open day as they had recommended it as a good guide to the look and feel of the exam the candidates would be sitting in the September.Having now sat and thankfully passed the exams I thought I'd pass on my thoughts. The early packs (1-4) are showing their age (and your son / daughter couldn't put their actual dates of birth on the answer sheets as they are too old.) so I would recommend the newer ones (I have 6-8). My son tells me they are a good likeness to the Altrincham, Stretford & Urmston exams (as sat in 2015) but not the Sale one.The packs are good quality and well thought out. The strategy I took with my son was spread the tests from one pack over a few days take a week off and do the next pack. Having done 4 packs across the summer it made him comfortable with how the exams would look and work so he wouldn't panic on the day. In terms of the pack itself there are 4 exams included; Verbal, Non-Verbal, English & Maths, an instruction book and an answer book - it may be that the schools in your area only do 3 of those so you can concentrate on them (check with the school admission pack(s)) but the Trafford Schools had a spread so we did them all.I got him to do the tests in a timed fashion as per the times in the instruction book - bear in mind these may not match those in the real test (again check your schools admission sheets) but they mostly did with regards to Trafford's Schools. Once the time was up I made a note of where he was up to and any he had skipped then got him to complete the rest if he could. When done we marked them together and made a note of his in time score / all the time in the world score and then went over the ones he didn't know or had got wrong. The only down side to the packs is they don't explain the answers so there were several occasions where I had to think hard myself about why the answer was what it was when trying to explain it to him! That is the one item I would recommend the publishers change as it could put off parents that struggled at school - it shouldn't - every kid deserves a fair crack at a good future. The aim for me was to build confidence and see what he was weak in so we could focus on improving those areas. I can honestly say these packs helped. By the 4th he was getting further in the time and getting higher results over all (about a 15% improvement in his case). If your child is a borderline case that could be all the difference but on the other hand I have a friend that did a couple of these and realised that their child would not get close to a pass and decided not to put them through the stress of the exams. It could also be worth doing one of these first if you are thinking of going down a tuition route as it will give you an idea of what if anything you need from them potentially saving yourself tens / hundreds of pounds.

Good product but no spare answer sheets?
As recommended by the School these are a continuation of the first set. I copied the answer sheets as there is only one answer booklet so without doing this you only get one attempt. Would be better with more answer sheets for extra goes!

Necessary evil?
It has 4 tests within it. There are answer booklets to put answers in, and a separate explanation & answer section for parents and teachers. Useful resource to prepare for 11+, also helps prepare child for SATS. Reasonably challenging comprehension texts and vocab tests for a 10 yo
