Captain America Triple

Saw these as a kid and so chuffed they brought out a very cheap box set! Its a shame there isn't a bluray version (unless you buy an import). Quality is what you'd expect from very old TV movies, but its a nice treat reliving the memories.

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty ( 1979 )This is mostly an origin story, showing how Steve Rogers is slowly led to his destiny to become Captain America.The film wisely focuses on this and the interaction of the actors, and this is where the film's strength lies.The pacing, fight scenes, and vehicular chases of this Made-For-TV-Movie/Pilot Film are classic examplesof the style, production values and technologyused by TV shows of the early 80's like A-Team and Knight Rider.Overalldespite its shortcomings, ( writing is weak, acting is enjoyable, special effects are amazingly corny)this film can be a pleasurable nostalgia trip from the 1970's for those who like little silly camp movies.Captain America is far from a good movie but at the same time it's not nearly as bad as itsreputation would have you believe.So on that note, this version of Captain America seemed a nice relic of its sunny California '70s time fun.Enjoyable.Captain America II: Death Too Soon ( 1979 )First off, this film has nothing to do with the Captain America we all know and love in the comics.The plot by Miquel to extort money from the US government by threatening to dump his aging gason a densely populated American city sounds likea kid-friendly version of something the Red Skull would cook up.The biggest problem is the screenplay, that never really gets done with it.Overallthis one is less energizing, has less spirit from all involved and is just plain..badCaptain America ( 1990 )The movie has a dim look to it; the acting is second-rate; and the action and battle scenes are few and far between.Salinger gives an honest performance as the title character, even if he spends more time out of costume than in.Scott Paulin plays the Skull like a cross between a Mafioso and a James Bond villain. Competent, but nothing special.Themusic is just plain and bad. The screenplay is no better than a comic script from the 1940s.Overall"Captain America" is one of the worst films of all time that uses some exotic locales to make up for a lack of asuitable screenplay and invisible direction.

Not great but the two 70s TV movies are kind of fun. The later film has not aged well though

The two 1970's "films" which I presume were pilots for a television series were actually quite good and well worth the price of the box set, the 1990's film well that was not really worth watching. I purchased this for completeness of my collection of super-hero films and think it was value for money.
