Amazing mixer for dough
Bought this back in December but wanted to wait a few months before writing a review to make sure it was robust. I wanted one of these mainly for kneading bread as baking is a new obsession of mine. I have to say that I couldn't be more impressed. The dough hooks make kneading so easy, the dough doesn't climb up them and they mix everything properly. I wanted this particular mixer because of the wattage as I didn't want it to be under powered. It absolutely rips through the thickest of doughs right from speed 1 to the top speed (I think it's 5). The manual has a bread recipe that uses 1KG of flour so it's more than enough for the half kilo loaves I make. There's also no time limit on usage when making dough like other mixers. I've used this weekly, often twice a week for the last 12 weeks and the motor is showing no signs of wear. I've used the beaters too which foam up eggs and batters really well. It's really quiet, light, smooth and incredibly powerful - honestly, don't hesitate in getting one of these.

Bosch quality maintained.
I had my previous Bosch hand mixer for 9 years and in constant use. I replaced it with a cheaper item on Amazon which had such a fast first speed that I was always wearing the flour and limited to a cable length which made it almost impossible to use. Ejecting the beaters was almost impossible too. So was forced to make a second purchase returning to Bosch. This machine has everything my original mixer had but even better, the machine itself feels good quality and a nice weight. The cake beaters are even more robust and the slow start up speed is a pleasure to use. You are fully in control of this mixer from start to finish with its powerful yet quiet motor and precise ejector button. I am not given to awarding 5 stars on a new machine and have knocked one star off for the slightly shortened length of cable compared to my last Bosch Hand Mixer. Come on Manufacturers how much does an extra 30 cms of electric cable cost to ensure manoeuvrability and safety in use. The booster button mechanism on this new model can easily be pressed by mistake. This was also a feature of my old mixer. However, given all the other pluses I do not think it a deal breaker as you get used to it.

silent with wide range of speed control.
It is silent at low speed and it has really good range of speeds from very slow to high speed. I am very happy with my purchase.

The best in the range due to Magic Beaters
Bosch MFQ4020GB Hand Mixer 450W. I chose this mixer after looking through pretty much all mixers on Amazon and Currys - this has the best beaters for whisking eggs, with a metal hub, made of a thin wire rather than a rigid metal strip, fancy shape with additional balls for better whisking. The dough hooks are also decent. It has a powerful motor providing a high torque at the lowest speed, generally designed well, and the brand has a good reputation. Number two, three and four were Braun, KitchenAid and Smeg, but their beaters were merely a match to the previous generation of Bosch, and controls were not as user friendly. It is important that the attachments are made of a good quality stainless steel rather than being chrome-plated, so there is no plating to come off later. This mixer is a replacement to my old Kenwood, and it is better in every aspect, apart from the platform at the back for resting the appliance when put aside - Bosch has a useless attachment slot there for the accessories that are not supplied, which makes the unit less steady when left upright, not a big deal, as it still stands fine. Another irritation is the "Turbo" position of the controller, which is easy to hit by accident when trying to stop the machine, and it is labelled with a letter "M" for some weird linguistic reason. It is a specification fault, as this mode is not needed anyway and just used in marketing. I am tempted to fix these shortcomings DIY by gluing bits of plastic to the base for steadiness and to the controller to block the "M" mode. The mixer is lighter than many in its class, and even those with less power. It is well balanced in hand, a semi-decent cord of exactly the same length as in the old mixer, probably standard for the range (tempted to replace it with a proper silicone cable). It produces by far less noise compared to the old one, the beaters are balanced well, and it has a remarkably useful first speed, which is slow and with a high torque. The machine also looks pretty, better than the competition. My experience in making several times Hollandaise sauce for eggs Benedict and mixing the dough with a lot of nuts for Croquants de Cordes is strongly positive - the beaters are excellent. So, it is a very good buy overall. Note, the previous models of Bosch are not as good, as their beaters are held together with plastic and do not have that magic shape with little balls for catching air, while buying the beaters as an upgrade is not an option, because they cost as much as the mixer itself. Recommended!

It works. But not that Bosh level as I used to know. This has lack of plastic quality. You don’t feel it’s good enough for its money. Not solid, a bit flimsy.

Amazingly smooth and quite. Bosch quality. It does lack the punch of other beaters at similar or lower price range. Ergonomically too it is just put OK.

It only lasts a few seconds intermittently before spasmodically turning off
