Color + Pattern: 50 Playful Exercises for Exploring Pattern Design Flexibound – 30 July 2015

I really like this book. At first I was worried it might be a bit amateurish - "draw a flower without taking your pen off the page" - but it actually comes off a bit more sophisticated than your first day in A-Level art of textiles. Some are a little amateurish still - "Create a Pinterest account" or "Create an inspiration board".Not only full of suggestions for exercises, but a good selection of artists' work is included too. With some of the more in-depth exercises it displays an artist and how they've used the technique of the exercise in their work! Pretty cool.The book doesn't contain too much detail about the HOW of a subject, such as mirrored repeats, so if you're after a book that describes the techniques in-depth and HOW to do them, this may not be the book for you. Personally I think that it's more geared towards inspiration.A very good purchase for anyone passionate about being in the textiles industry.

I have yet to follow through on creating pattern, but this book has led me on the right path of exploring ideas. Sometimes, one can get stuck in a rut, this book helps throw ideas at you which aid in the inspiration search. Love it.

Really informative and helpful book for anyone learning surface pattern design. Full of illustrations and inspiration as well as a lot of good solid information.
