DEWALT DCP580N-XJ Cordless Planer XR Brushless, 18V Li-ion

If you've several Dewalt tools and thus a decent supply of compatible batteries you'd be wise to try this Planer if your after one.Works well with both 4 and 5Ah batteries - so far I've used it on 12/18mm Ply as well as 18mm Kitchen carcasses without any issues.The depth setting is a little vague as it seems to work straight off 0. So be warned but with that in mind and keeping a close check to your marked line you'll be happy with the finished results.One thing extra I did buy as an Extra was a Dust Bag ... as without one you'll soon get covered! Yes it does not collect everything but what it does will surprise you. Just a shame you have to buy it separately but then that's where a certain auction site comes in [picked one up very cheaply - so look out for a bargain that seems to come round every few months].All in all a nice little planer - easy to use, still light enough even with a battery and nowhere near as noisy as a mains planer.

Good product. Ideal for what I needed it for. Needed to plane bottom of doors after we got new carpets fitted.

Very useful tool and versatile as its battery powered

It's a small concern but this did not come in a dewalt box, every dewalt tool I have ever bought came in a dewalt box except for this the tool seems decent and to be genuine dewalt but because it didn't come in the box I remain somewhat dubious, I have given it 4 stars because its seems genuine and does the job it's just the box things leaves a small niggle in my mind

As you may know from other reviews, I am not a handy man. I struggle putting a poster on a wall but I actually ordered this Cordless Planer and a Dewalt Jigsaw (DeWalt 18V XR Lithium-Ion Body Only Jigsaw) for my brother who is a builder/joiner.He has used every type of tool by every manufacturer and swears by Dewalt. He doesn’t have an amazon account so I ordered them for him. He used them for just over a month and said that the Planer was the best plane he had ever used and that the jigsaw was also very impressive. He recommended both of these tools to everyone at work and was going to buy another Planer for when he is travelling to odd jobs like most builders do.However about a month ago his van was broken into and over £3000 tools were stolen. If anyone has ever had this happen to them then they will know how awful it is and that you are very unlikely to see their tools again. Usual steps were taken and he was in the position of not having any money to replace the tools and couldn’t earn money without them.In a desperate attempt he contacted Dewalt and asked them if they could sell him refurbished tools or offer a small discount as he was a valued customer (Still has all of the Dewalt receipts) and was told by a company that he had bought from for years and recommended to hundreds of people that it was not there problem.I don’t doubt the quality of Dewalt tools and the 2 tools mentioned above would be given 10 stars if it was possible but the customer service of Dewalt is so poor that he refuses to ever buy one of the products again.

Very good piece of kit , bigger than what I thought it would be, but it does the job really well.

Good value, works well and lasts a long time on a 2ah battery.Just the planner supplied but any xr batteries work and a Dewalt dust bag can be found on amazon for about £16 when you add this to the cast of the planner you save £30-35 from other offers on amazon which include the dust bag.
