Great value but possible glitch
Overall I like this kit. It produces a range of fairly authentic drum sounds, with features that are well reviewed elsewhere, so I will not dwell on those. One fact that should be noted though is that the pads are not velocity sensitive, so the sound volume output from all pads is set by the main volume control and is fixed no matter how hard or softly the pads are struck,The kit works very well. There is no noticeable latency between striking the pads and hearing the drum sounds. There is some stick bounce from the pads but it is not similar to the bounce from a physical drum skin. The drum sounds are good and in the main clear. However in the unit delivered to me there is a problem with noise interference on some sounds.Interference is present as a low frequency hissing sound when using four of the drum sounds: Crash, Toms1,2 and 3 and to a lesser extent the Snare . The interference continues on for about half a second following the genuine drum sound created by hitting the pad. This would not be a problem when using the kit for practice, but since my intention was to use the kit as an occasional addition to the drums in my band, the result is unacceptable. It is possible that the problem is created in the firmware of this kit and may be present in all the units produced. Since the unit appears to be a generic kit produced by one company but badged and marketed by different companies under different names it is possible that the fault is present in other similar units marketed under different names. This possibility is supported by a customer review on Amazon for the identical looking Hizec 7 kit. The customer reports a hissing sound that continues after the end of the drum beats. That said, I have watched and listened to seven Youtube videos that demonstrate identical looking but differently badged units and have not heard any hissing sounds following the drum sounds. This may be due to the limitations of the sound quality from Youtube, or it may be because I have a faulty unit.So although I will be returning my unit, this kit as delivered to me is amazing value for money with good authentic drum sounds and a range of features suitable for practice,. I cannot though recommend it for use for any kind of gig unless it is found that my kit has a fault which is not present in other units.
