Excellent Book!
I was looking for a good book that was both easy to get to grips with and straightforward, but with nice recipes, and easy to follow instructions. The book arrived this morning and I have whiled away a good few hours having a read through and I have to say I am thrilled with it! It is really well presented with lots of gorgeous pictures to inspire and delight.I like the no nonsense and down to earth way in which the author approaches the subjects and suggests alternative tools that most of us have in our kitchens or around the home. There are also guide tips for things to make life easier or how to get over 'cakeastrophies'. It seems to make it all absolutely achievable even to the most novice cake maker.I am a real newbie to the cake decorating world - I can turn out a very decent fruit cake but cannot make a sponge to save my life. After the traumas of trying to make sponges over the years, to impress both husband, and children while they were young, and having them fall about laughing as yet another 'biscuit' emerged from the oven. I gave up; birthday cakes and donated cakes for school were purchased rather than subject myself to further ridicule about how I could offer my sponges to would be discuss throwers, or how they could be used as effective door stops! However, kids have now got children of their own, and I have more time on my hands to pursue my interests, and I have been turning out decorated christmas cakes, birthday cakes, cake toppers etc (All fruit cakes remember!) as pressies to family. After having looked through this amazing book this morning though, I feel inspired and more confident to face my 'sponge demons'and have a go!!!! Maybe soon, I too will be applying ganache with panache, and my sponges will be discovering new and dizzy heights, and I feel that I will have achieved what the family consider mission impossible..................This seems to me to be the nicest book that I have so far in my collection and would recommend this to everyone.

Everything you ever need to know
A very well detailed book which explains every aspect of cake decorating and is all beautifully illustrated. A great book to keep and it will be used often.

Great little ‘instruction manual’
This book is almost exactly what I was after - a clear and concise reference manual to teach a wide range of cake decorating techniques. I think it would benefit from an update to include more recently popular techniques such as ombré icing, fault line, ruffles, etc. I would also prefer to see more photographs or illustrations in some cases and photographs alongside piping nozzle descriptors so that you can identify the correct nozzle even when you’re are not numbered. That said - this is still the best reference book I’ve found so far for the average amateur cake baker.

It is what it says on the front cover.
Useful recipes for essentials in baking and decorating biscuits (cookies) and cakes. Good ideas and tips for the novice. I bought the kindle edition; very useful in keeping clean in a busy kitchen.

Don't hesitate. Get a copy!
I'd describe myself as a keen hobbyist/intermediate cake decorator. I'm self-taught and was looking for a handy reference book to help me get really good at the basics. And this is it!Well-written and brilliantly helpful, Juliet Sear's title has the bonus of featuring some truly beautiful, creative designs. With her clear explanations, they are all achievable and her troubleshooting tips at the end are invaluable.

Not what I thought it would be
As a complete novice at cake decorating I bought this book to guide me on my first steps. Unfortunately there are not enough step by step instructions and photographs on icing techniques.

Beautiful book!
I absolutely love the layout and style of this book. I am quite good at making basic sponge cakes but absolutely useless at decorating - the children know not to ask me for anything fancy for their birthdays! But Juliet writes in such a positive, down-to-earth way, I might actually be tempted to try. There are loads of little tips and ideas as well as the recipes themselves that Fancy Nancy use in their cakes. A definite cake bible for me!

Good for a beginner, but...
I was excited to read through this book especially since my cake construction and decorating knowledge is minimal, but after finishing I realized there is not actually very much about decorating cakes. Also a lot of time is spent on cookies which is not implied by the title. The info in the book is really great and I learned quite a bit, I just wish there was a little bit more cake styles addressed as this is supposed to be the cake decorating bible. I probably won't be referring back to this book for ideas just construction techniques.
