$1300+ is probably full retail if you bought each item individually. Buying in a combo pack is always a much better deal, and this package looks like a great deal for so many tools.

Is thIs a good first power tool kit for a beginner/woodworking hobbyist?

They are professional grade so absolutely. I use the "you know what" out of these tools and they last a long time. I had the old white and black drill/impact/driver combo too and the only issue I have with them is the drill tends to strip at high torque when drilling through thick metal but I've used this old set for many years at my auto repair shop and they are still working great. I have about 2 years on the new set. No problems. Very good value!
