HISTORY OF THE BOROSILICATE GLASS: The borosilicate glass was first developed by German glassmaker Otto Schott in 1884. The glass was created by adding boric oxide to the traditional glassmaker's frit of silica sand, soda, and ground lime. Such glass is less subject to thermal stress and is commonly used for cookware. The glass has a higher melting point, making it more heat resistant than regular glass.
