Sony DVP-SR170 DVD Player, Scart Only (No HDMI Port), Black

The last time I bought a DVD player it was about 3 times the size and weight of this piece of kit. This is much more suitable for the space I have and is great quality. Arrived today, took me about 30 seconds to set it up, and it works perfectly. For under 25 quid this is a great deal, assuming you are like me and still buy and use DVDs, I guess DVD players will be obsolete in the near future, but until then this works for me.

The Best Little dvd player i have ever purchased.I admit i was a little Dubious when buying this dvd player.But i needed something small and cheap to put in the boys room for playing their assorted dvds.So i took the chance.It has not stopped playing since.Startup is quick,about 5-10 seconds.Picture resolution is really Excellent.Sound is also excellent.The last dvd player sent a poor sound quality through the tv.Im using the same scart leads,Yet the quality all round is far Superior.Its compact,so very handy in small spaces.It also looks surprisingly well made and nicely designed.It has great replay,save the last dvd play times etc features.fast forward,reverse,etc,etc,Excellent value for money.Plus it's a sony.So hopefully it will take a lot of beating,hard work etc.(young boys room)nd i will get a few years from it.Excellent 5***********

The player is compact, works well and is swift through the menus and so is a superb improvement on my previous (4 year old) player (which was not Sony). It plays flawlessly all DVDs I've tried. For the price it is a very good machine. My only gripe is that ther "manual" that comes with it is pitiful - there is no description of what many of the remote functions do - after a lot of research online I've worked out all but one button - I'll have to try it and see what happens! The online website support page doesn't have anything extra, so that is a bit disappointing. But overall I'm very happy with the purchase.

I specifically wanted to buy a DVD player with scart connection for my parents, as they have an older TV with both scart & HDMI inputs, but they had previously struggled with their blu-ray player as it didn't automatically switch over to it when turned on and they would have to manually chose the correct source input. This DVD player fitted the bill with its scart connection (unlike others which either have HDMI or AV RCA), meaning it would automatically switch over to it when turned on which suits both my parents and myself perfectly as they can operate it and I don't get endless phone calls. The DVD player is nice and compact as is the remote control, which has all the buttons located in all the right places for single handed use. Picture and sound quality are excellent as you'd expect from a Sony product.

We currently cannot watch TV via the aerial in our new bedroom as we haven't got a lead long enough, so in the short term (and to make sure we can waste those wintery Saturday / Sunday mornings lying in bed), we wanted an affordable DVD player, that would arrive quickly. I signed up to Amazon Prime Free Trial so this arrived the next day. Small in size it is extremely simple to use. It is a basic DVD player that requires a SCART cable (not included) to set up. There is a slight whirring noise that can be heard when a DVD is playing, but we just upped the volume when watching the film to overcome this. This is not a fancy DVD player by any means, but it does exactly what we wanted it to for £25, so no complaints here.

Product is very basic and feels quite cheap. It almost felt like it would break in my hands as I took it out of the packaging. I bought an unknown brand DVD player 10years ago for slightly cheaper that seemed to do the same job. However, as it's Sony's most basic DVD player it's not a huge surprise but I would have expected a bit more feeling of quality. That said, it was great value and does exactly what I needed it to do - play normal dvds in a spare room with no need for high quality play back.

Having a scart connection means you do not need to go through a menu on the TV every time you want to watch a DVD. The TV just switches to it as soon as the DVD player is turned on. I like this machine’s simplicity of operation as well as it’s small form factor. Regarding quality, I also have a HDMI device plugged in and honestly I cannot see any difference in picture quality between the HDMI and scart inputs. The quality of the remote control is excellent as is usually the case with Sony and the DVD player itself is quiet and smooth in operation. My only criticism is that the power lead is very short. You’ll probably need to use an extension lead unless your power socket is very close. If your TV is old enough to have a scart port, I’d certainly recommend this machine.

I stream a lot but still need a DVD player to play the old DVD's and some CD's I have that I'd never throw away. This is so cheap and it's a Sony which is unusual because I'm used to paying a bit more for Sony. I was delighted with this, I literally just need a good quality cheap DVD player I can rely on next to the TV. This does the job and the remote is clear and easy to use. I'm happy I got this and have recommended it to others who need a dependable DVD player, 5 stars

Kleiner, feiner Player ohne Schnickschnack. Einfach einstecken und los geht es! Das Gerät ist leise und unkompliziert für Leute die einfach nur DVDs anschauenwollen. Ich habe es jetzt schon eine Zeit lang und es noch keine Probleme aufgetreten.

Fazit: Leichter, verlässlicher und leicht zu bedienender DVD-Player Der “Sony DVD Player DVPSR170B.EC1” ist ein “Basisgerät”, für alle Nutzer, den es reicht, DVDs ab zu spielen, oder über den Fernseher ins Internet zu gehen. Der Player verfügt über einen „Scardsteckplatz“ für eine direkte Verbindung zwischen Fernseher und Player (man kann aber auch über ein „normales“ Antennenkabel eine Verbindung aufbauen). Die Bedienung am Gerät oder mit der (mitgelieferten) Fernbedienung ist einfach und bequem. Die DVD-Wiedergabe ist sehr gut und der Player arbeitet sehr geräuscharm! Ein dicker Wehrmutstropfen ergab sich, als ich beim Auspacken feststellen musste, das das Netzkabel einen 3 poligen Stecker aufwies (englische Variante) und ich somit gezwungen wurde einen Adapterstecker zu kaufen! Nach einer kurzen Verhandlung mit Amazon, erhielt ich aber eine Preiserstattung, die den Adapterkauf voll und ganz aufhob!
