Good for the price, but audio not quite as impressive as some reviewers suggest
Logitech have produced a good quality and well-priced audio solution for boosting the audio output for laptops and allowing for sound output where monitors etc. don't have speakers built in. The speakers and subwoofer provide a loud and punchy audio output that certainly sounds better than laptop speakers can manage, but audio can be a little muddied and it's a far cry from anything audiophile's would consider good quality. However, for less than £40 that's totally fine.Considering the low price the build quality is decent, the speaker cables that plug directly into the subwoofer are of a sensible length for most uses (2 meters or so) and the unit can be easily connected to any 3.5mm headphone jack output. There's no bass control lever for the subwoofer, which is a shame, but the pre-calibrated audio is nicely balanced, happily providing punchy bass delivery rather than ground shaking rumbles. The in-line control box is another useful feature, offering an On/Off button, volume control, and a 3.5mm headphone output jack.Having tried out a few different 2.1 (stereo and separate subwoofer) computer speaker systems this is one of the best I found below £50 and makes experiencing music, film and gaming on the laptop more enjoyable.

Uncompromised, rich and dynamic sound-quality from a tidy looking set of speakers.
I am a Music Student from Cambridge and I regularly use a variety of excellent sound systems to listen to music on. I was skeptical of these speakers, given their price, but trusted the reviews by others and went ahead. These speakers are simply sublime. Once you have plugged in your device using the 3.5mm cable provided, you will be delighted by rich mid/treble sounds and an appropriate level of bass frequencies. Yes, these won't give you quite the extended frequency range of the Logitech Z533's Logitech Z533 UK-Plug Multimedia Speaker System with Subwoofer, but honestly, these remain to be impressive speakers. Their only pitfall is that the sub-woofer does not give you the utility to adjust its volume separately and this would be a nice option to have. Nevertheless, I listen to a wide variety of music and as of yet, I have not experienced any dissatisfaction regarding bass volume.Pro's- These can be turned up loud without distorting the sound.A variety of music sounds good on them. Vocals are crystal clear, orchestral sounds are rich and electronic music sounds sharp and defined.- A nice matt-black finish and they don't collect dust easily. They look more expensive than they actually are.- The cables are long enough to space the speakers by out 2 meters, whilst still hiding them behind a cabinet etc.Con's- The volume of the bass speaker is not adjustable. I have not yet found its volume to be over/underwhelming, but nonetheless it would be nice to have the option there to adjust it.- The tweeter speakers could be heavier .. if you catch the cord on something they will move about quite easily. I purchased some 'Command Strips' to hold them down. Command Picture Hanging Strips Value PackOverall, a great set of speakers for the price. You won't be disappointed!

nice bass
I have a bad habit of buying audio kit, and this is surely the best per £ spent ratio around. It's amazing the difference a sub makes. To my ears it sounds better than my 2.0 ELAC separatesThe learning is, with any hifi buy a sub first and work up from that.it's probably worth upgrading this to get a seperate sub volume control, but for the price.... who cares

A good Logitech design is renamed but mostly unchanged
For the purpose of this review, we must travel to the Logitech R&D division, and listen in on a conversation between their top speaker system design engineers, Barry and Dean."Dean! The Boss says we need to create a new budget speaker system. What shall we do?""What's wrong with the old X-210, Barry? I've got one of those myself, it's pretty good. Nice bright sounding top end, good mid-range for vocals, and a lot more bass than you'd expect for the money. It's even got a headphone socket on it. All you have to do is plug it in the green 3.5mm socket on the back of your PC, then into the mains, switch it on and you're good to go. My kid could set it up! ""The Boss says we need to update it, and he wants the update out in the shops ASAP!""Blimey! What's the budget on that, Barry?" They only retail for about £50, and it's not like we're going to sell a billion of them.""Ah. Well...""Well what?""Well the Boss says there's no additional money beyond our current R&D budget.""WHAT?!""Yeah, I know...""Barry, you're telling me the Boss wants a new budget speaker system, ASAP, and with no additional R&D money?"That's about it, Dean. What are we going to do?""No worries, my son! Here's what we're going to do: We'll take the old X-210 sub-woofer and re-badge it. Change where we put the Logitech logo. Also, give it a bigger number: Forget the old X-210, we'll call this one the Z-313. Sounds completely different, yeah?""I'm with you. But what about the top speakers?""You remember we both did a design for the speakers before, but the Boss preferred your design?""Yeah?""Well this time we'll use *my* design, that the Boss rejected last time. We'll use the same speaker units, but bung them in my speaker case design. My design was better anyway, because it had a bass port in the front.""Dean, those little speakers don't have any bass to port, so why would you put a bass port on them?""If you've got a better design right now for free Barry, let's see it.""Good point, Dean.""Thank you. We can use the same control switch on it too.""Oooh! Are you sure, Dean? The old one was always a bit dodgy. You have to wiggle the one on your X-210 to get it to work sometimes.""Needs must Barry. Now, you go tell the Boss we're hard at the re-design, and I'll meet you down the pub. Cheers!""Cheers, Dean!"And there we have an insight into the tireless efforts of the Logitech engineers, doing their best on a minimal budget, and coming up with something that's worth buying, but not exemplary in any way, and is barely an evolution of an old design. (See pics)But at the end of the day, the old design was pretty good (dodgy wires aside). For the price, I reckon Barry and Dean have earned that pint. Recommended.
