these are surprisingly heavy - which is good for training and they are solid, not hollow. really nice grip, well weighted and well finished.

This isn't advertised as a toy but purchasing as a toy for a young teen who wants a sword is the way to go. Durable and feels as though you're using the actual thing. Strap that came with it was torn but that's easily replaceable.

I've been wanting some sort of japanese sword for a long time now, so my review may be mostly narrow minded. But I'll be damned if i don't say that this sword is incredibly sturdy. The hilt is not made of the same material, so don't go around sparring with it, but the sword? I've hit walls with it as a stress test and it only had the white taint scratched off the wall on it, which was easy to remove. Other than that? No damages what so ever. It's a great stress relief and I find that sometimes my kleptomaniac housemate likes to sneak in my room, steal it, and play with it himself. Overall, fantastic purchase, worth every penny and it's a great initiation tool to practise sword tecniques, i.e Iaido as I've recently begun.

Apologies for my late review but this was awesome. I took a risk on giving an 8 yo kid (who is obssed with ninjas and sticks this as a Christmas gift as opposed to the cheap crap at toys r us). To say that he loved it (more than the rest of his tech gadgets, and usual pyjamas and bllx) is an understatement. Sentimental stuff aside. It was quickly despatched, very well packaged, perfectly as described and (as I'd hoped) incredible value for money. One side note is that my junior ninja has left me with a black eye today, so this item is NOT a toy 😍

Pros: - The sword has a good amount of weight to it; it feels very nice to wield. - Sword looks so cool straight up - The scabbard fits really well on the blade Cons: - Unfortunately my sword blade was bent, I had to physically straighten it several times but now it is good.

We bought two of these, one for me, one for my son. The katana bokken is excellent and is based on a wooden bokken rather than an actual sword and comes complete with wooden grain effect texture. The handle is very nice with a simulated grip. It comes in 2 parts, the blade and handle is one piece and the guard (tsuba) slides over the end and clips into place. The scabbard feels very thin and cheap, more like the kind of thing you get on kids medieval swords but does come with a strip of material so that you can tie your own sageo - i quite enjoyed doing that by following various videos on youtube (not allowed to link but a search for "Katana Sageo Presentation Knot- by Samurai market" will sort you out). The strip is a bit short for a full 6 wraps though so i would only attempt 5. I have a ColdSteel trench hawk and this sword seems to be just as good quality. What i would point out though is that it is a lot cheaper to buy directly from Playwell's website (though of course you don't have amazon's backing if things were to go wrong) and you also need to be aware that the swords come wrapped in bubblewrap with no box to hide what you have bought. The thing is pretty much indestructible so you don't have to worry about damage but it does mean that your postman might wonder what you are doing! Scabbard aside, it feels like a high quality item and i am sure it will withstand many a blow. Playwell actually do full coloured versions as well which are worth a look.

I've used a larger version for training before but bought this for my home use and despite being a fair bit lighter it is just as durable as the bigger versions and has the added feature of the sheath + ribbon for fastening. Very happy with it, would recommend.

Una volta intasata la bocca del fodero con del nastro adesivo per aumentare la resistenza con il bokken, ho risolto forse l'unica vera pecca di quest'oggetto/arma: il fatto che il bokken esce dal fodero troppo facilmente. Anche solamente capovolto scivola via come fosse oliato. Con questo piccolo accorgimento diventa più difficile sì estrarlo e riporlo, ma è solido e affidabile quando maneggiato, quindi secondo me ne vale la pena, per coloro che intendono veramente utilizzarlo. Chi sa di cosa parlo, capirà l'importanza di un'estrazione controllata. Chi non lo sa, invece, basti pensare che nel maneggiare questo bokken come fosse una katana, l'estrazione può essere, e spesso è, la prima mossa, già di suo. A parte questo, il resto è professionale. L'ho testato contro un canneto e rami secchi e sembra nuovo. E' solido ed ha un baricentro in avanti, rispetto all'impugnatura, comune anche a molte spade katana, a seconda dello stile di combattimento che si desidera. Beh, questa è pesante in punta, quindi affonda con facilità ma si maneggia con più fatica rispetto ad una bilanciata. Il manico è di forte grip alle mani e anche a guanti in diversi tessuri, essendo striato e scanalato come fosse stato intrecciato di cuoio e altri materiali. Non ho avuto problemi neanche con il sudore delle mani. Ne ho avuto di più alla formazione di calli sull'interno della base del pollice della mano portante e sulla nocca del pollice della mano di supporto (colpi accidentali di goffaggine mia quando stringevo le mani in alcune mosse traverse). Insomma è molto gripposo. Non si corre il rischio di farselo scivolare di mano, a meno che si ha le mani mosce. Per quanto riguarda la parte rappresentante la lama, la mia è un po' storta sulla sinistra, ma non ho riscontrato problemi nell'utilizzo, quindi non mi è servito chiedere una sostituzione. L'ho presa come una peculiarità di fabbricazione che l'ha resa unica, perché sto parlando di una storta di poco conto, non visibile subito. E non parlo ovviamente della normale curvatura del profilo, che è tipica di una katana. Parlo proprio di quella longitudinale, quindi se osservata mentre la si impugna al centro, con la punta verso l'alto, si può notare che pende sulla sinistra come la torre di pisa. No, un po' meno della torre, ma si nota. Ripeto, non è una pendenza rilevante. Può darsi che quella che ordinerai tu sarà perfettamente dritta, o penderà di un grado sulla destra. Quello che conta è che è indistruttibile. Sogno il giorno in cui troverò un compagno serio di bokken. Ce l'avevo fino all'anno scorso. Peccato. L'avessi comprata prima... Posso immaginarmi facilmente a fare pratica, in un ambiente sicuro, con le dovute protezioni, con un compagno di scherma. E mi sento di raccomandarmi con chi pensa di fare lo stesso con questo bokken che è UN'ARMA. E' da considerarsi come un manganello della polizia, in quanto altamente resistente e rigido, e con un colpo ben assestato può anche rompere le ossa. E' indispensabile usare protezioni e farlo in un posto sicuro, altrimenti si può anche incappare in denunce e arresti. E' opportuno saperlo e rispettarlo. Io al momento lo uso come bastone di pratica per le mosse, perché ha un certo peso, il giusto grip del manico, e la conformazione giusta, ed un fodero che ora è affidabile. Cose non riscontrabili in altri prodotti più giocattolo. Mi sto allenando seriamente e necessito di simulazione. Le mosse non contengono quindi forza e velocità, ma sono di puro movimento e tecnica. Qualora decidessi di usare forza e velocità, sarà opportuno "vestirmi" con protezioni adeguate, perché posso assicurarvi che questo materiale, ricevuto a forza in faccia o sugli arti o addosso, FA MALE! Non lacera, giustamente, essendo smussato, ma fa male quanto una mazza da baseball o appunto un manganello. E' veramente adatto a colpire un altro bokken, e immagino che possa farlo a lungo senza mostrare usura, ma non posso dirlo non avendolo fatto. A chi può farlo e lo sta facendo, un occhiolino da parte mia, con un pizzico d'invidia. E a chi vorrebbe farlo, un pollice alzato. Questo bokken è adattissimo. Ciao
