It's definitely not for 8 year olds..
My son is 8 year old, and he asked for my help. The trick instructions are hard to understand even for me, being a 30 year old. I was expecting at least a few simple tricks, like rings or rope tricks, but most of the tricks require a lot of reading and load a of practice..
