Simply the best razor I have ever used
Simply the best razor I have ever used!I had been looking for a DE (double edge) /safety razor for a few weeks and read reviews, forums and information on all the main brands, however was not convinced if shaving with a DE would work.I had previously bought an expensive straight razor with strop and hones but never got on with it and could never sharpen it myself, I spent so much time and effort on it, in the end I gave up as shaving should not be this hard or take up so much time! Switching back to electric I found it was just not shaving well enough so I thought about the DE.I wanted a razor that would be low maintenance, shave well and stop me having to spend £26 for 8 blades (The current price of Gillette blades in Boots) !!!!!!!Basically I was worried that DE / safety razor shaving would be the same experience as my straight razor, so I was reluctant to buy an expensive one initially. The Jagen David razor arrived in a really nice storage box with mirror and I was surprized to see how well made it was, with a nice weight to it. Others have commented that cheap DE razors have a poor finish or have parts that do not line up correctly. This razor is very well finished and the mechanism is solid and accurate, when closed the doors align perfectly and the blade is held squarely with an identical exposure on both sides of the razor.Having a box or case was important to me since other brands only supply the razor and an additional case adds another £10-£15 onto the cost.I tried the razor immediately and with great success! It shaves brilliantly! Very very smooth, no cuts or irritation and afterwards I was amazed how smooth my face was – I forgot just how well a blade shaves compared to electric. The razor blade does not come to the edge of the razor, so it can be laid down safely on the sink or table without blunting the blade, but in order for it to shave, you have to find the correct angle – search Youtube for lots of videos on the subject. The handle is fine for me, and I am 6 foot 3 with big hands, but I have read that some men prefer a longer handle than these razors have.I see Amazon sell Astra blades for about £10, which includes a free Arko shave stick – a years’ worth of razor blades for £10!Of course its early days yet to tell how long the razor will last, but I would certainly buy another if it failed but when handled, nothing on the razor makes me question the build quality – no rattles or soft easy to bend metal parts. So in summary, if you want to try shaving with a DE, and save some money too then buy this razor - I cannot compare it to other razors as others can, but for me it works, gives a close and comfortable shave and is a great price (both in initial cost and in replacement blades).

Great razor, takes a while to get used to but when u do it's amazing!!
Just takes a few attempts before u stop cutting yourself. But when u get it right it's the closest shave ever and not bad one in-grown hair or rash like from my mac3. Shower first, never go from cold. hot towel for 5 mins if possible but ive never the time. moisterise or use nivea sensitive aftershave balm on first, you want your skin as slippery as possible. My local barber tells me to put shaving cream on for a minute or two and then wash off and do this 4 times before shaving. Something u can try. A little shaving brush will help your shaving cream /gelgo much further. They're about £5-6. But once u get it right the blades are so cheap. Just got 100 for £3.50 and remember their double sided. Warning- the handle length IS very short. Gives me much more control but others may not like it. Many people complain the thread brakes when u open up the butterfly for a new blade. At the end of your shave just open up razor, drop out blade if u want (i do) and rinse the inside & the thread wont ever stop working. It's the gunk, dried gel/cream that people have just left to dry and put pressure on the tiny thread. It's quite fun learning to shave this way but give yourself 3 attempts before giving up, and don't use the day before something important. I never cut myself anymore (But i did the first 2-3 times) nd the shave is so close with no rash. I actually bought 2 by mistake so email me @ neverfret54321 gmail and I'll send u a new one and throw in some new sealed blades. Only got one tho guys so ill just pick first reply if i get one. Hope my review helps, cheers Paul

) as it has a simpler unbreakable mechanism - it's a shame as the butterfly mechanism looked cool.
Initially felt solid and worked well. After about 18 months, the release mechanism jammed and with pressure the internal shaft that opens the butterfly sheared off. Will instead try the basic model that I got for the patients at work (NHS razors are for sadists!) as it has a simpler unbreakable mechanism - it's a shame as the butterfly mechanism looked cool.

Good bit of kit out of the box
Just used this for the first time.. really nice design mechanism works well . Its nicely balanced and my skin was fine afterwards even though only using Sainsbury blades. Really good that the stubble easily washed out between strokes as I have a thick tough beard and the usual gillette 3 blade jobs get blocked really quickly. Gonna get some better blades and see whats what but this is pretty good and excellent value so far as I can tell.30/1/16- Ok so now have tried it with Feather and Astra blades- awesomely close shaving (both) for almost no money.. the blades will go a week if you clean them and leave them dry.. The weight of the razor means that if you let it do the work i.e. use the weight for the energy to draw the blade down you get a really close shave.. better than the multi-blade systems and somewhat more satisfying if you use shaking soap and a brush (I use the cheapo Wilkinson sword brush (£4 and palmolive shaving soap/bowl £2 from Asda). Haven't cut myself yet!t feels like I am having some me time and I now look forward to shaving. I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't bought this safety razor so - recommended!
