The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2017

I buy this book for my Dad every Christmas, even with google now available to search online he uses it every day for his Crosswords.

Full of interesting facts

Very good.

When I was a child my father used to buy one of this every year and we used to use it as a source of research for homework, I thought in adding one of those to my son's (who like facts) stocking. he keeps looking at things in it, country facts etc. yes there is Wikipedia but hi finds this book very interesting. the only thing is that this book is an American edition so it has lots of American facts.

I was disappointed to find it's so USA focused as this wasn't obvious from the description on Amazon.co.uk.

NO useful infomation -Mostly American rubbish-avoid!

Against my idea, I received the World Almanac and Book of Facts 2017 in the Kindle versión instead of the printed one. For simply browsing but also looking for something concrete (say the name of an artist you know well but can't come to remember his or her name), the digital versión is not very agile.

This book is a fantastic Encyclopedia of up-to-date information that we have relied upon for years. Whether you can Google things instantly or not doesn't matter.If you want to sit back and just read some good information-everything from sports to politics to celebrities-and don't feel like looking at a computer this is the book for you. Chock full of relevant information of all the countries in the world-and more.

There are still print reference sources that are infinitely superior to scrolling through millions of random google hits, and this is the best one for highly organized, dense, thoroughly referenced charts of statistics on politics, industry, entertainment, public health, measurement conversions, geography, history, etc. There are no distractions, no trolls, no irrelevant results, and none of the sources lead to dead links or blogs. It becomes deficient if you are seeking information about current heads of state, as the volume is compiled before end-of-year election results are recorded. This is a deficiency that it shares with the print version of the CIA World Fact Book. It cannot be updated daily, so in those instances, one should definitely consult the internet. Aside from that, this is an excellent book, which will save you from many, many hours of fishing through government websites for buried statistics pages, and tell you the primary sources as well, if you do wish to visit those government sites.
