Prime Chess Tournament 76 Hand Crafted Wooden Chess Set 39 x 39 Centimeter

Recently decided to learn to play chess and wanted a physical board as I think playing online would get boring quickly, but didn’t want to spend a fortune on my first set. This set is perfect and I can’t stop looking at it / playing with it. It’s a good size and the pieces are all well finished. The board is sturdy and lines up well when folded out. It can be put away neatly with all the pieces slotting into their individual places inside the board. The algebraic notation on the sides is really helpful for players who are learning from books and such. The one thing I would say could be a issue is that the pieces are not weighted and so could be knocked off and lost easily, but for the price you can’t expect them to be such good quality and weighted. Overall, would recommend to anyone who is looking for an affordable and quality chess set.

I bought this almost reluctantly after reading some of the reviews. There is a lot of competition for this kind of board on Amazon and I eventually went for this one because of the value for the size of board.I'm delighted to say it's well worth the money and the criticisms I've read are unfair.The board looks fantastic. The wood looks amazing and the brass looks are a great touch. The pieces are very light with a felt bottom which I think is very good, some people seem to think pieces should be heavy.I can't understand how people can say £21 is a rip off for this. It looks and feels more expensive to me.One criticism was that the infill panels which hold the pieces isn't glued in. If it was you couldn't place your pieces back into it as you play. Another criticism was that the panels don't even keep the pieces in place till you reopen. This isn't true. Another reason I hose this board was that it had a matching panel on either size, ensuring that it would hold them tight. When I reopen my board the King and queen normally fall out as I open, but everything else is in place because there's no space to move when the board is closed!Overall I'm very pleased with how I've spent my money. I didn't know you could get such a good looking and practical wooden board for so cheap.

This is a pretty decent wooden chess set at a pretty good price. The chess pieces appear to be fairly standard and are of decent quality. What does make this chess board stand out is that it has some really nice carved detailing (dark stained rope effect) between the squares and along the long edges of the board.However, the plastic moulds under the chess board to hold the pieces does feel a bit cheap. The mould of the set we received was concaved when it arrived, and as such didn't hold the pieces well whilst it was transported. The king also felt a bit large for the mould, but if forced will fit. Not a massive problem in the end as it does work, and it is a good looking chess board.

I was previously using a chess board where the pieces were difficult to distinguish and decided to purchase a new one. It’s difficult to choose between the different chess boards on the internet, however this was a great purchase.I agree with the reviews where the pieces don’t weigh very much and the green felt could have been a solid insert rather than A plastic insert, however I feel the price is good and the board/chess pieces are great.This is a normal size chess board and it’s perfect for indoor playing. I usually don’t write reviews but thoroughly impressed with this purchase :)

The wife and I always but a game for a gift at Xmas and we have wanted a chess set for a while. Although it’s not the best quality set you can buy I am impressed with the overall quality for the money it cost. The pieces as well made and the base/case is too. The only concern is the longevity of the insert which holds the pieces. It’s very thin with nothing behind it so not sure how long it will last. As it stands it’s perfect for our camper van trips as there’s no rattling and the case is a handy travel size. We might spend more on a set if we wanted it on display for the house only, but this cheaper alternative does fine and is also perfect for travelling

An incredible and sturdily built board useful for travel and quick games alike. Stores away easily and comfortably, despite being sturdy enough to remain as a tabletop piece too.A perfect purchase.

I don’t normally write reviews, however this purchase really made my day.I find chess sets can be hugely expensive, so I have been holding of buying a full size board for a while. Things I love:- Full Size- beautiful finish throughout- unbeatable price (£29.99)If you are wondering if this is worth buying I can honestly say you won’t be disappointed. We have had 4 fantastic games this evening, bottle of châteauneuf du pape 2007 and listening to “the Pilgrimage to Santiago” arranged by Philip Picket.Well that’s my quarantine sorted ;DThank me later

I purchased this set after all the positive reviews it's received. Although nicely thought out and we'll made the materials used are definitely bargain basement and not top notch. The laquer used on the board makes this set absolutely stink, strangely the wood playing pieces don't smell the same. The interior from the photos looks like really lush velvet but in reality it's actually really cheap, thin moulded plastic that's been sprayed with fibre to make it look like velvet. The pieces when stored actually don't stay in place and fall out of you happen to open the board the wrong way up. Also, both kings don't fit in the area moulded for them, they are sightly too big but this doesn't interfere with the actual closing of the board. The board sits perfectly flat when opened. The pieces themselves are beautifully turned and do have 'real' felt bottoms and I can't fault them really.Overall it's a nice set but for me, I don't think it's worth the nearly £40 price tag and should be considerably cheaper.
