Q: Can you open the items? Are they functional?

Every shopkins REAL LITTLES toy is in its own brand name packaging very simular to the Mini-Brands toys. Inside every toy package is a little shopkins miniature toy figure with a different facial expression’s. The inside figure does not have movable posable parts. For Example inside the Miniature size box of Jello it will have a miniature jello jigglers toy figure with a cute facial expression. Inside the miniature Pringles container will be a miniature stack of pringles chips figure with a cute facial expression.

Q: Does this set come with a checklist? Do they vary? Our two sets were the same, was hoping for a variety.

Yes, the set comes with a check list. And yes, the sets do vary. I have seen people buy two of them and get different shopkins. The last time I bought two of something, I also got duplicates. So I only purchased one because there is no guarantee that you will get a different set. It is very unfortunate that this happens.
