I didn't pay attention and it does come with steel ...
I didn't pay attention and it does come with steel fiber bar in the middle which I was trying to avoid since my last grill cleaner left a piece of steel on the grill. After digging the metal out of my gum, I tried to find a brush with no steel fibers. Hopefully this one will not shed any pieces of steel.

It makes clean work much easier! High quality material, the bristles seems firmly attached. This is a great thing as they're less likely to end up in your food.
