When a boy learns to control his environment with magical powers
It is a story about a boy who, while aware of being a helpless child, find magical powers that change the balance of powers in his life. This boy, Kaytek, goes through changes and a great amount of learning about using his new power. It is a child centrist book written by a pioneer in child education almost a hundred years ago.I love the story , having read it as a child in Hebrew. My only complain is about the translation which is not flowing enough for a modern child. Iwould make it a bed time story to be read by a grown up to a child. It is a gem in children literature and I hope that it would find its way to a translator worthy of it.

That this book was written in 1933 Poland.
The story probably enchanted the children of those days and may even today, though there aren't any space travels or electronics involved.

This man knows children like no other writer
My son was awed by this book from the start, and laughted harder than I have ever seen him laugh. Korczak seems to know what children will love in a way i haven't seen in other books. He is a genius.

Strange print
I don’t know what is wrong with the translation but it was terrible. And the book quality is horrible, super cheap, falling apart the day I got it.

Great man... the book, not so much.
Janusz Korczak was a good man. He was, in fact, a hero of the best kind. Kind, courageous, and self-sacrificing... Protector and comforter of children, onto his own death. Read about him, and then go improve yourself!! Seriously. But this is not a review of his life. Was Kaytek the Wizard reminiscent of Harry Potter (as I some reviewer somewhere claimed)? In no way whatsoever. Should you buy this book? It depends on what you want. Do you want to own a book written by a hero? Yes? Then go for it. Do you want to read a coherent well written story that will grip you emotionally and/or intellectually, that you will read with joy and will leave you wanting for more. Yes? Not this book. (NOTE: It is possible that some of the problems with this edition of the book arise from the translation. I don't know)
