Training the mind
I was hoping this book would be better than it was. The issues with this book whichmade it unreasonable for a person to read much less to understand. The Buddhists names were so difficult to try to pronouce

This really helped my understanding! TEN Stars!
The teachings of boddhisatva, lojong practice, is challenging for me to really "grok." After a retreat on mind training I searched many sources for a fundamental, clear explication. Pema Chodron, of course, covers the teachings in a comfortable style and I love her. Traleg Kyabgon's teaching offer a penetrating presentation of recondite material. I've reread the preliminary practices many times. I finally decided to use a yellow highlighter. It's ridiculous! I may as well use a gray marker for the parts I DON'T want to highlight . After the retreat I found myself trying to move too quickly through the lojong teachings. This fine book helped me slow down so I could bring it into my practice. Sorry to run on. This book deserves it and it will reward careful reading.

... seven point mind training and think this is a great accompaniment for westerners
Have read or at least studied other commentaries on the practice of lojong and seven point mind training and think this is a great accompaniment for westerners. This helped clarify some points better. I'm a believer that you have to find which commentary best suits you, but with that said you can gain much by studying more than one commentary on this subject, and Traleg Rinpoche has added tremendously in that regard. I pray for his swift return. On a side note, does anyone know why it is stated on p. 145 that the "lying-down posture" of the Buddha is on the left side? I've only heard it is the right side except at rigpawiki.org, where it states woman should lay on their left side.

The Practice of Lojong, by Traleg Kyabgon
The Practice of Lojong, by Traleg Kyabgon: Practicing with the 59 Lojong slogans. After checking out the book from our library, I decided to buy it. I found Kyabgon Rinpoche's writing to be modern and down-to-earth. He includes lots of helpful detail to explain the pithy sayings of Lojong. The practice of Lojong is challenging and blends well with Zen practice.

lucid, practical, highly recommended
Lojong practice is sometimes labeled a "moderately advanced" Buddhist practice. I believe the basic principles of Lojong are applicable to anyone's life--if you are interested in cultivating compassion and wisdom. Traleg Kybgon's book offers clear explanation of the practice. He does a great job of presenting the traditional teachings in a style that appeals to the modern mind. His approach to Lojong is somewhat more analytical than Pema Chodron's, but the two complement one another well. His manner of teaching really impressed me--I felt he was teaching directly to me, rather than feeling I was just reading a book. I was sad to learn that he recently passed away, for I would like to have had the opportunity to attend his teachings in person.

Our Mindfulness Meditation class is using this book as the basis for the classes. There are 57 slogans listed and we learn from one slogan each week. So obviously, this book will take some time to explore. I have learned so much from this book. It is transforming my negative, habitual patterns into ones of compassion and loving kindness through the suggested meditations of forgiveness, loving kindness and Tonglen. It tells us to use the slogans as we go through our day to transform our reactive nature into one of compassion. Thank you to the author, Traleg Kyabgon for his insights and direction to the cultivation of compassion in my life.

This is the best book I have found on Lojong
Shortly after joining a local buddhist community and attending a lojong retreat, I found this book in the library. After reading it once I knew I would want it around to reread, so I bought a copy. This is the best book I have found on Lojong, or training the mind in compassion; I have read it 3 times now and read from it almost daily. It's a thorough and comprehensive treatment of the 59 lojong slogans, written with a depth of understanding of the power and potential for transformation of lojong practice. The writing is so good I bought the other books written by this author.

this is one of the very best books currently available on Lojong
If you are looking for an imminently readable and accessible exposition on this subject, by an undeniably authentic modern Tibetan teacher well versed in Western culture, this is one of the very best books currently available on Lojong. It will add inestimably to your practice, and even more so to your everyday life. Not dry or academic by any means, but not at all dumbed down in the least. Gets straight to the heart of the matter. This book gets my very highest recommendation. Do yourself, and the world, a favor and hunt down a copy of this gem!!!

A Very Import Spiritual Work
This book is something I desperately needed. The subject is in the title, The Practice of Lojong. I was not familiar with Lojong and found this by "luck" when it was featured in a Kindle sale. It has helped me deal with so many of the issues I am currently dealing with in a manner that ties in much of what I have absorbed in past Buddhist readings. It helped me stay on a peaceful and respectful path during times where I was close to going the other way. This book is incredibly well written and organized. It is also filled with many footnote references to other works. As a result I have sought out some of these books for further reading due to the numerous references. I already have Shantideva's Way of the Bodhisattva, I have purchased and will next read Words of My Perfect Teacher by Patrul Rinpoche and likely will soon purchase Mind Training by Thupten Jinpa Ph.D. There are also many other great works referenced. In short if you need an introduction to Lojong this book is it. Even if you are not someone who would likely practice Lojong but sometimes require reassurance that working through angry or painful thoughts and situations without resorting to harmful actions will find a path to being a better person a path is drawn out for you. Just remember, like with everything, it involves work, often hard work and perseverance. This book is a top 5 in personal Spiritual works for me, and I give it much more than 5 stars.
