WOW ! I just received the kit 2 days after ordering. First test was 2 strikes and burning ember. I am very impressed with the quality of all components. The kit contained a beautiful high quality leather pouch, large fat flint(over three inches long),well made striker and a nice tin of charred cloth.I can not understand any negative reviews. The key is also to know how to use the contents. There are many utubes to help if you are new to this style of fine making.I highly recommend this product.

I've never owned nor used a flint & steel to start a fire but this was very easy to use on my second strike. I was able to catch a spark on the very small piece of char clothe. I'm very impressed with this kit specially that I am able to add extra pieces of gear like a bic lighter, storm proof matches, ferro rod and even a magnifying glass to the leather pouch fitting nicely.

Worked well, a littl light on char cloth, but you gonna want to make your own anyway.

It took me about a week to figure it out, but I MASTERED this primitive fire skill. Just use enough char-cloth, make enough char-cloth afterwards, and you can even set wet oak leaves ablaze! The leather carrying case is super sturdy, too! I threw a ferro rod, Bic lighter, and a magnifying glass in it and I have 4 methods of starting a fire on my hip at all times!

Having picked up "tourist" flint and steel kit at a gift shop, I became fascinated by primitive fire making.This kit came with an amazing amount of goodies. A leather belt pouch, a tin of char cloth and a yuge flint stone. The flint stone was amazing!The problem is that the fire steel striker absolutely sucks. I tested it against the flint that came with it as well as the chert stone that came with my "tourist" flint and steel kit. Then I tested the flint that came with this kit on the cheap fire steel in the "tourist" kit. The difference was night and day!I am returning this kit for a replacement in the hopes that I get a good fire steel next time.

Was excited about this product when ordered it, but once I recieved it was still a little stoked until I stuck it a few times never received any spark but the flint rock (stone) does nothing but break with every downward strike.Update; just tried it some more manged to get a few sparks but again the rock is so brittle that im actually skeptical about using it. At this rate there will be nothing left to hold on to

This is a good quality product. 1st time ever trying flint and steel and as soon as the kit arrived I took it into the garage and tried it. I watched the video on their web site. Right away I got fire. Very nice. The leather pouch is a very nic e touch

...the steel striker wasn't hardened. It was so soft I was carving chunks and raising burrs. Couldn't strike a spark at all. I hardened it (heat striker edge to orange heat, quench in water) and then it worked great; lit my char cloth on the first strike. I suggest to prospective buyers to give the benefit of a doubt to the seller. I'm betting his supplier (China?) didn't harden it, so it's not really the seller's fault. The rest of the kit rated 5 stars. Nice leather pouch, etc. Seller: Fix your supplier issue and you've got a winner.
