If you need an HDMI port to read as connected to a TV/monitor, this is your ticket. It works correctly, it's inexpensive, and it's small.For many, that's great for using a remote PC without a monitor connected. In my case, I wanted to output audio from my video card via HDMI to an old receiver, but didn't want to do video along with it. Without a monitor connected to the receiver, the video card didn't want to read the supported values for the HDMI port (including audio). I could either fiddle around with weird driver settings every time I update the video drivers, or spend a few dollars on this easy solution. Done!

I use the dummy plug with a gaming pc in combination with the Sunshine streaming server and Moonlight client. The point was to be able to switch off the real monitor but still have streaming work. This setup works fine. I'm looking for a way to disable "power management" for the plug because the pc can still put it to "sleep" and that interferes with streaming. No fault of the plug though.

If you own any iMacs, then you are aware of Target Display Mode, and the fact that it no longer works for most iMacs. Depending on what iMac you have (I have a late 2012 27-inch), you can try AirPlay, but often that reduces the quality from 2k down to 1080p and you can't actually use the full screen of the 27 inch iMac because it will give you black bars and limit it to the size of the origin screen (2016 13-in MacBook Pro in my setup).With this device, I can plug it into the MBP and then Screen Share from the iMac to the MBP (must be in that order to work). Then, in Screen Share on the iMac, I select to only display the virtual screen (which this product provides). Then, set it to Full Quality and turn scaling off. Go into the virtual display's System Preferences and change it to the correct output that matches your iMac's highest ability. This allows me to put the resolution up to the full 2k my iMac is capable of instead of just the 1080p AirPlay defaults to (and doesn't allow you to change in settings). You can also choose to share the mouse and keyboard with the iMac and your other Mac (though I don't do this unless I need it because it makes the cursor slightly laggier). Then, arrange the display configuration and you're good to go.Though there is slight lag at times with resizing windows and such, the actual use doesn't seem affected very much. The KVM switch at work isn't working so I bought a pack of these so I could just do a screen share into the Mac I need to access every once in a while. Did the trick! Icons aren't constantly moved around on a "low res" looking screen. Saves the money on buying a new KVM switch or monitor/keyboard.

I'm not the most savvy but I wanted to setup a media server. I used Ubuntu 22.04 and the native remote desktop on windows to connect to it. I tried setting up a virtual monitor from some forums and bricked my server so I had to reinstall Ubuntu. I decided why not try this, it's cheap. Remote desktop NEEDS a monitor and this thing worked perfectly - it basically thinks it's a 27" screen and has many resolution options.I now have two more in case I need them, just a great value deal.

These HDMI dummy plugs are great for enabling headless setups. They simulate a display perfectly and improve remote desktop performance. The build quality is decent, and they work right out of the box. I docked one star because they feel a bit fragile, but overall, they do the job well!

Works as described, great price. Used for headless Linux server with NoMachine.
