Book Two in the Outlands series,...
... so that would make this number thirteen in the entire Lost Fleet universe.Admiral Geary is attempting to carry out his latest assignment. He is sent to Dancer space with orders to solidify peaceful relations between these aliens and the Alliance. The plot to this book was as thick as pea soup. Every character seems to be motivated by an individual agenda. Except for Ensign Duck...good old altruistic Ensign Duck 😁. But because of all of these conflicting motives, things became quite chaotic. The cast included condescending dictatorial scientists, gullible crewmembers, a new diplomatic team, assassins, traitors sprouting up like mushrooms, disloyal battleship commanders, scary secretive special forces, bored Marines getting into trouble, ...and more. Lotsa factions. There are two downsides. First, one of the major plot threads wrapped up too neatly and at warp speed. The other bummer is that I'm caught up with every book in the Lost Fleet series. Now I have to wait until the next is published in July!

Space Opera at its best
Great combat action, deep philosophical questions, and powerful human dilemmas make this a great read. Don't miss the equally good first installment, book one. Looking forward to the last.

Black Jack entire series just awesome
I stumbled upon The Lost Fleet by chance just like the main protagonist BLACK Jack Geary found 100 years after presumed dead at the beginning of a war fought during that time.It is refreshing universe with sci-fi you can dig into. No chances of seeing flying mechanized fish flying around but a true space naval story centered around the people and ideals. Every page resonates with true thought out purpose. If you like sci-fi space military with 100 year war has made entire civilizations question themselves their enemies and the great unknown you will love all The Lost Fleet books and additional series that let us learn the main adversary and grow to work with some of them in mutually beneficial endevours

Excellent series and character development.
I enjoyed all the books in the lost fleet series. These books remind me of the David Weber series on Honor Harrington. Real believable stories in a universe with realistic people.

Backjack and the fleet has taken off for another flight into danger.
Another page in the space opera of Blackjack Geary and his incomparable wife the Captain Tanya Desjani. The two must evade all comers, friendly and foe, in their quest to communicate with other spacefaring races of the galaxy. - keep them coming.

Incredible Sci-fi
Jack Campbell is a master at edge of your seat page-turners. I've loved every single one of the books he has read and this much anticipated continuation of an amazing series has not dissapointed at all.

good but not particularly consequential?
While I still very much enjoy the pros of these books as well as most of the characters the pace and the events of this particular book felt off to me.It is possible that I wanted more action, more space battles but I do not believe that to be the case. I think this is more about minuscule steps in the overall story progression. I did not feel like I got a book’s worth of plot here.I will continue following this series but there will be less anticipation for the next one.

consistent with Campbell style.
Of course all of us who have read all of the Fleet books, we know the back story and the Characters. Can't wait till the next one.

Enigmas
Latest in the 'Lost Fleet: Outlands', series of military science fiction novels. This is the third series for the characters. And the second book in it. So it's not really on a jumping on point. New readers start at the very beginning with ''The Lost Fleet: Dauntless'.Regular ones, read on.This one runs four hundred and seventy seven pages. It has eighteen chapters. And it ends with things up in the air, so there's going to be more story to come.It picks up from where the last book left off. With the Fleet on their latest expedition. Still having to deal with the unknown aliens the Enigmas and their potential threat. But threats also lurk within the fleet itself...Some books give you more of the same. Some give the same in the writing style. And if you've been with this series all the way, you know that's going to be the case here. It is very readable, if a little repetitive at points. But it pushes things on. And does it quite nicely.Jack has early issues to deal with in regards to a ship from the Rift Federation. Then assassins rear their head again. And dealing with the engimas and the dancers continues. This starts off at a good pace thanks to the Rift Federation ship business. It does what it always does re space travel and how combat weighs on people really well. It does start to drift a little in the middle. But it really rallies in the final third. This because it really moves the story on. There are some very good developments which I won't spoiler, and these plus the ending leaves you on tenterhooks as to what will happen next.In addition there are some great character moments with one new creation, an historian. Plus Dr. Cresida is threshed out and develops in an excellent manner. And as ever, it's great at making the aliens truly alien. Also, the physics it gets into. It's mind blowing. But you're never out of your depth. This part of it was fascinating stuff.Another good read in a consistently entertaining series. I really look forward to seeing what comes next.

Somewhat disappointing
This book has a lot of talk and conspiracies and not a lot of space battles like the original series. I understand the characters will grow, and the Alliance is not milk and honey, but there is too little adventure and too much intrigue. Oh well, I guess the next possible evolution could be John Geary and Tanya Desjani having a domestic argument.

Absolutely brilliant
Another riveting story in the "Black Jack" series full of all the twists and turns of the previous books in this new and epic installment I believe that there will be a third book in the Outlands series can't wait for it. I've tried buying the audio but all in getting "This application does not support purchasing digital content. Instead, add this to your Wish List." from both app and website can you tell why

Jack faces new challenges
I like this series for the acceptance that other species may not be like us. There are physical constants but thought processes, even amongst different human cultures, can be different. There is just enough action to counterbalance the thought provoking narrative

Another pretty good book
I enjoy these books. I'm not really a huge fan of Jack's writing style though. He does spend a lot of time repeating himself. A lot of the "rules" are repeated, and people's full names are used again and again. Either way, I look forward to the next one.
