Amazing book, tons of information!
I happened onto one of Geert's videos on YouTube and that led to me Amazon to check out this book. It was a fair price, so I decided I would give it a shot.I am fairly new to anxiety attacks. Only having had them the last few years, off and on. But to be honest, since I can remember I have always felt slightly anxious. Not an anxiety "attack" as I have been getting the last few years, where I am jittery, elevated heat beat, palpitations, chest pains, and slight nausea, but just constantly in a state of being "tense", and I have pretty serious social anxiety.Reading this book I can relate so well, small things like avoiding certain situations, such as while driving, I will go 20 min out of my way to avoid an intersection! And some of the other symptoms and feelings Geert explains he, or his clients have experienced. It is just good to know I am not alone.So I got the book the other day, and have already read it front to back (I do love to read, but usually novels, non fiction, not so much, so that is saying something). I have already begun to notice when my brain starts to kick over that first domino, and now I have tools I can use to fight back (without fighting back, hence the "counter-intuitive" nature of the methods in this book). It has already helped me out tremendously! Just yesterday (before I finished part3) we went out to eat, now it was one of my "comfort" restaurants, but even despite that I always feel anxious there and anywhere else just about. But yesterday I was so calm, and relaxed. And whenever I felt myself wondering "what if", I would just use the techniques to laugh it off (to myself of course). I plan to read it over again, this time take it a little slower, and write more info down. I want to buy copies for all of the people I know in my life who I know could benefit from this book!I love Geert's writing style, hints of humor, very detailed explanations and analogies.Not to talk down about other reviewers, but reading some of the negative ones, such as those who say there is no practical application or not explanation of the techniques, makes me wonder if they made it beyond a few pages.Bottom line... This book has the ability to change your life. If you follow through with its teachings!Thanks Geert!

Extremely Helpful & Fun Book to Read! Worth it's weight in gold
After about 9 years of dealing with anxiety & panic attacks, this book gave me the first meaningful recovery I have ever experienced. I'm not someone who is constantly underwater with their anxiety - for the most part I live a pretty normal life... though my anxiety seemed to always be lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce once things got "too good". I'd actually become anticipatory if I noticed that I'd gone a few months without anxiety, and then it would come back in full force.Geert does a fantastic job of both communicating things in a friendly, descriptive, and very often comical way - so anyone currently deep in an anxious mindset shouldn't feel intimidated. This book isn't an instant cure - though you will most likely feel a vast improvement very quickly. As others have said, this book gives very real and practical perspectives to help people with mild to severe anxiety in a whole variety of forms, including: social anxiety, agoraphobia, completely generalized anxiety, "losing my mind" anxiety, fear of flying, fear of driving, fear of restaurants, and many more.My favorite healing point of this book is how it focuses on "fear of the fear" which is one of the worst parts in my opinion about living with anxiety. The constant anticipatory feeling is almost worse than the actual panic attacks themselves.If you're struggling with any form of anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia, or any type of chronic fear in your life, you really can't go wrong with this book. For the price of a burger & fries, you can SERIOUSLY improve your life and self-image.I repeat this isn't some fluffy "breath deep, start meditating, there's nothing to fear" book. It is straight to the point, direct, yet very light and humorous in it's tone. Geert makes lots of chuckle-worthy jokes while simultaneously giving endless actionable methods, perspectives, mindsets, and trains of thought which result in your having a whole armory of things to combat (and eventually start to enjoy) your anxiety/panic attacks.

this book CHANGED MY LIFE.
If you struggle with any anxiety, i HIGHLY recommend this book!! I am a 20 year old college student and have been struggling with my anxiety for over a year, i have had all of the same thoughts you have probably had and thought my scenario HAD to be different and there’s no way it would help me but that’s 100% Not the case ( i know you’re reading this thinking yours is different too) it’s not. i finished this book today and have already made huge improvements and do not fear the fear anymore!!!! I genuinely thought that it would be impossible!! it’s NOT!!!! please buy this book if u struggle with anxiety, this will help you!!!!!! i cannot thank Geert enough just for writing this book it absolutely changed my life. i’ve cried tears of joy because of it.

Wonderful!
I actually bought this for my fiancé who’s having a hard time with anxiety right now, and he raves about it. He said it’s been very informative and helpful, and as soon as he’s finished with it, I’ll be reading it myself!

I’ve suffered with panic attacks since I was 8 years old, if not younger. I’ve seen dozens of doctors, hundreds of tests/blood work, hospital trips, therapists, medications, you name it but nothing has helped me like this book has. I’m by no means a good reader or enjoy reading but this is an easy read and so worth it for gaining control of your anxiety and growing your emotional intelligence. This book made me feel seen and understood. I wasn’t driving myself to work after reading this book just for a few days I started driving myself again, I’m still not finished with the book I haven’t had it very long at all and it’s already made such an impact like I haven’t found before. If you feel lost with panic attacks or anxiety, please do yourself a favor and try this book out! The book shows true testimonies of people who have had bad anxiety and what they did to over come it, the author is very genuine and gives links to meditation and other practices in the book that are truly life changing.

A great help
After having anxiety and panic attack issues for more than a year, I finally feel that I have some strategies and techniques to help myself.Sure, you can find similar techniques mentioned in many online videos but the way the author has written the book is humorous and insightful - and sometimes written words feel much more impactful than watching a video where there are too many distractions.I think everyone who are suffering from anxiety and panic attacks should give this a read.

Geert will change your life, this is an amazing self help book, please read my review!
Geert's book is amazing. If you are suffering from anxiety, or anxiety disorder or panic disorder, this is such a brilliant book. Even more amazing is his audio course, of which you can get the first few sessions for free on his website. As someone trained in mental health, and also going through a CBT course for panic/anxiety disorder at the same time, I can say with absolute confidence that his book and audio course will change your life. Personally, I also found that Geert, in his own way adheres to many of the principles of CBT, whether he means to or not. I absolutely love his style, his way of writing, and if you purchase the audio course (which I highly recommend, especially if you are waiting for, or wanting therapy to help you in these times), his lovely, relaxing, lilting voice, and the anaologies he uses - I have been listening to him for the last 8 weeks (so I am just over halfway into his audio course, having read his book), and as he says, in week 7, you should be feeling better by now... and I really, really am! Along with other things, Geert has really changed my life for the better, and significantly - and I haven't even finished his audio course yet! Not only this, he is the MOST helpful, lovely person if you have any problems with trying to download things, or get to the right week, if you're a bit of a luddite like me. I cannot recomment this highly enough - wonderful book, wonderful course, wonderful man! 10 stars out of 5!!!

Cheguei a este livro por acaso num momento em que precisava muito. Foi fundamental para eu entender o que estava acontecendo e como barrar o processo. A leitura é fácil e as técnicas simples e funcionais. Pra mim funcionou perfeitamente.

Help yourself to deal with serious anxiety!
I loved this book and found it well written and to the point. It helped me a lot and I often refer back to it. Great job Geert!
