Helpful sermon resource
I found this book helpful in giving me different perspectives with which to approach the Gospel of John. The best part of this book are the sermons at the end of each essay demonstrating how the essay may be applied. Generally, the essays were thought provoking, but I wasn't super persuaded by the two essays identifying "friendship" as Johannine theme. It's an idea that seems a bit arbitrary: good for a couple of sermons, but not an overall theme.Still the remaining essays were all interesting and useful in sermon preparation. While the sermons are easy reading and practical, the essays tend to come from an academic perspective and take more thought to work through.I have no problems recommending this book for preachers looking to preach a series on John, you'll find it a valuable resources.
