awesome book
I collect kids picture books to study because I am writing some myself. this little book was so imaginative and inspiring, uplifting story about faith and persistence. the illustrations were done so simply and in a much interesting way. I highly recommend it. it's my favorite one in my collection of many.

Beautiful book
I love this book. I bought it for my 6 year old cousin, whoβs mother is from Thailand, and she loves it! Very cute story, and the illustrations are beautiful.

A folktale set in 1950s rural Thailand
A peddler comes through a small village with a beautiful paper flower tree. A little girl admires it, but has no money to buy one. The peddler gives her one of the flowers and tells her that if she plants the bead on it, it just might grow into a tree. In faith, the girl plants the bead. Months pass and there is no paper flower tree. When the peddler comes back through the village with a troupe of performers, the girl tells him her frustrations. In the morning, she finds a beautiful paper flower tree has sprouted where she planted the bead. This is historical fiction lest kids think all of Thailand is like this now. (It was written in 1959 originally.) Kids can debate whether the paper flower tree really grew from the bead the girl planted or if it got there by some other means. The illustrations are basic sketches with splashes of color. Not my favorite illustration style, but it gets across the flavor of a countryside Thai village from over half a century ago. A nice multicultural read for classes who want something a little out of the ordinary. It'd be fun to have kids make their own paper flower trees. Sadly, there are no instructions in the book but if you Google Thai paper flower craft you can get many ideas.
