Love it
Tan's debut novel was inspired by Chinese mythology and it's the first book of The Celestial Kingdom series. The moon goddess Chang'e's daughter, Xingyin, was a brave young woman who had spent her entire life in the shadow of her mother, hidden from all and unaware of the world around her. However, Xingyin's magic wasn't concealed, which led her to a dangerous threat by the Celestial Kingdom, forcing Xingyin to flee her house.Lonely and powerless she finds her way to survive where she ends up with the Prince of the Celestial kingdom. Disguising her identity, she seizes an opportunity to learn alongside the emperor's son, mastering archery and magic, even as passion flames between her and the prince. In order to save her mother, Xingyin embarks on a perilous quest, confronting legendary creatures and vicious enemies across the earth and skies. But when treachery looms and forbidden magic threatens the kingdom, she must challenge the ruthless Celestial Emperor for her dream—striking a dangerous bargain in which she is torn between losing all she loves or plunging the realm into chaos. Will Xingyin return back to her home and save her mother??First of all, I chose this book for its beautiful cover. I was unaware of the synopsis. I'm glad that my judgment for this book wasn't wrong. It's okay to judge a book by its cover😃I was engrossed in this book. The writing was vividly mesmerising. The fantasy world buildup was as if from a dream. It's fast-paced and an easy read with mysterious plot twists. It's a lovely blending of friends-to-lovers, lovers-to-enemies, the desire and angst, court politics, treachery and enduring love and ancient mythology.I WANT TO DIVE INTO THIS WORLD ❤️

An amazing read!
This was my first time reading books about Chinese mythology and this book also incorporates various elements of lunar deities, celestial beings and many other Chinese folklore so it was a breath of fresh air. I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest and I enjoyed reading every single page. The tragic tale of Chang’e and how she came to be the Moon Goddess was revealed from the start and we got to see everything unfold from Xingyin’s, the daughter of the Moon Goddess, perspective. We got to see Xingyin grow and become her own person and the friendships she made in her journey to become the First Archer. The numerous adventures she went on just to be able to free her mother had me feeling so anxious for her safety. We were also introduced to the love interests and since I’m a big fan of morally grey characters, you may already know who I was rooting for. I’m still hoping for some good character development for some characters in the next book and hopefully we’ll get that. I also love the friendship and bond between Xingyin and Liwei and the way they had each other’s back at all times. Would definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for some mythological reads!

Phenomenal read
Readers just go for it. Can be read as a standalone... according to my opinion... all things were packed up so well in the end

Fast and good quality
One of my TBR books. Fast delivery. A small part at the front bottom of the hardcover is a little damaged, but that can be ignored. Love the cover, the print and price of the book.

A great fantasy read
It’s a nice book with great amount of adventure and fantasy. But i’d say that the plot twist in this book was a somewhat underwhelming. If keeping the plot twist aside for a moment this book is great and you should definitely buy it.

Literally gorgeous
The book is gorgeous but the book sleeve has a little cut on it which is disappointing but fortunately not noticeable. Plus there are glue stains on the back, which I'm hoping can be removed. Otherwise, I can't wait to read this book.
