A deeply moving story of love and endurance
When I read the last page of this book, I held it in my lap and cried hard and long. It was for two reasons: the heartbreak was so immense, it touched my soul and made me feel like crying out to Existence. There is injustice in this world everyday, but at the moments when I am faced with it directly, it is unbearable and difficult to digest. Secondly, I cried because I was touched in a beautiful way, in an inspiring and positive way to appreciate life, to remember (again) its true purpose, and to reconnect with my Self. It also inspired me to be a better wife and never take for granted the people and blessings in my life.I love to read and I read a lot of books that are pure entertainment, but trivial. This was not one of those books. This was one of those rare books that made me feel alive, awoke me from the monotony of the world, and made the present moment come directly into focus. I cannot truly understand what the authors went through, but I am thankful for this window into their experience.Regarding some negative reviews, I think the message is not in the words, but in the space between the words; it is in the mood, emotions, and ineffable experiences that stand at the heart of this story. There is a profound message in it about the human experience. I am also reading Life After Death, Damien Echols' memoir, at the moment, so that may speak to why I found these letters to be so meaningful. That is another great read, which I am only 50 pages into, but has already made me laugh, cry, and feel grateful this experience was able to be shared in such a beautiful and articulate way.I think it is difficult but necessary to share such experiences so that we can grow in our humanity. It actually changed my view of the death penalty and our prison system, a topic about which I had never given much consideration until learning the details of this case.

Good read--IF you're familiar with the case.
I don't know how much you'd get out of this book if you were not familiar with the WM3 case already. I'd suggest watching the Paradise Lost and/or West of Memphis documentaries (all available free with Prime Video, last I checked) to get familiar with the case before reading this book. With that said, it's fascinating to watch the relationship develop between these two. Is it a little weird? Yeah--she is 10 years older and he's on death row at the beginning. Yeah it's weird, but everyone's relationship is a universe unto itself. My only wish is that they added more of the post-script pages that explained the context of the letters. A lot of the letters asked questions that were not answered in subsequent letters, which for frustrating sometimes. But, overall, if you're already up to speed on the case, this is a good read!!

After Meeting this Couple I was ccurious about their romance
Amazing how two people one who is serving life in prison, the other a New York landscape artist meeting through letters and in the end actually getting to live their life together. A fantastic love story and I was privileged to meet them in person.

great read. Real life horror story for sure
I could not put this book down, great read. Real life horror story for sure, but this man found his strength in spirituality and by divine intervention met the angel he now calls his wife. In addition to being absorbed by the subject matter, I found Mr. Echols to be a truly gifted writer, an amazing artist with his words indeed.

An amazing and poignant story
No one deserves a love and a new life more than Damien Echols. He and Lorrie’s love story is so beautiful yet fragile. At times I held my breath so as to not disrupt the magic growing between them. An amazing and poignant story.

Not a light read
I am fatigued by this book. If you've read Life after Death, this is a great companion. I would not suggest this book as a first read due to its inclination to give off the feeling of one truly being on the outside looking in. I am in awe of this couple and their journey and have emulated some of their strength in my own life. Read slowly and with an open mind as these truly are their private letters. We've never met, but Damien and Lorri, thank you for illustrating what love should be and what commitment truly means. In all honesty I had debated giving this book a lesser rating but examined that feeling and thought better of it. This isn't for the reader to experience a juicy secret or a salacious attention grab. This is raw, honest human communication, take it or leave it. One really must appreciate that aspect. It was at this realization that I had full respect of what I was privy to.

This amazing story of two gifted people will be acknowledged as ...
This amazing story of two gifted people will be acknowledged as a work of courage, faith, endurance and passion. It reveals how Lorri Davis' intuition urged her to write a letter of support to a man in prison called Damien Echols. In the following exchange of letters, readers learn how their ability to be honest and transparent formed the basis for a bond that could not be broken. They discover delight at how much they have in common but also they dare to share their fears, their tears and times of depression. As water flows to its lowest point so follows, after the first discovery of each other's mind and heart, their desire for touch and physical union. With prison walls between them, they need to rely on what they see and feel in their imagination. This hunger for union expresses itself in a titillating, heart-rending way which requires the reader to be open and non-judgemental. They leave nothing unsaid, nothing hidden, well past embarassment or shame. Hunger for spiritual union rises thereafter like a wave and encompasses all experience and lessons learned. This 426 page book requires patience and tenacity to follow the story of a man and woman struggling for survival towards the triumph of freedom of Damien Echols who spent eighteen years in prison for a crime he did not commit. As a published author I feel that the book could have benefitted from some rigorous pruning and editing. Yet, I stuck with it and I am a better and wiser person after reading it. Most of all, I have grown to admire and love both Lori and Damien. This book will stand the test of time and will be read in decades to come.

Im breathless after reading this!
What an amazing, personal account of years of perseverance and dedication to each other. Probably one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve heard and its true. I am so very happy Damien and Lorri made it through and are now free to be together completely.
