Only 6 Weeks Use - But So Far, So Good - Read My Warning
In general I have had poor luck with digital ballasts that I bought several years ago when they were new on the market. Back then it seemed like if you looked at them wrong, they broke. So I went back to reliable magnetic ballasts. But the increased PAR light (10 - 20%) and better efficiency reported in tests after test of magnetic versus digital led me back. Boy it seems the technology has improved tremendously. These run VERY cool compared to magnetic and the bulbs start (and restart) almost instantly. As far as longevity, if one breaks I will update the review but they seem rock solid. The manufacturer has a good reputation for backing up their product, I checked them out before buying. And after looking at over 10 different brands of digital ballasts - it sure looks like the ones $100 more in price come from the same factory. Cases are almost identical on many of these, as are the specs. So I'll go with the low price. One piece of advice not in the manual - - NEVER RUN A DIGITAL BALLAST ON A CIRCUIT WITH GFCI. I have seen them killed in an instant - I believe it is because the digital ballasts fire up by creating a momentary short - which the GFCI kicks in to fix at exactly the wrong moment.
