Q: is the 4 bulbs StartrKit 3rd generation?

Q: how much the lifespan of this bulb, around how many years it will work for me ?

The advised lifespan of the Hue bulbs is approximately 25,000 hours.

Q: Can one use the lights outside provided they are protected from the elements (i.e. front porch light).

Short answer: Possible, as long as your HUE BRIDGE is within 30 meter of your outdoor lights. Long Answer: The HUE BRIDGE that comes with this kit, is communicating with all the smart bulbs through a ZigBee connection. A ZigBee connection is the backbone of every smart home device that is on the market right now. It even uses other smart lights throughout the house to strengthen/further its signal! According to Philips, "The ZigBee signal range of the round-shape Hue bridge and the square-shaped Hue bridge are approximately 30m. The range can vary depending on obstacles in-between the bridge and the nearest Hue light. In order to extend the signal range of the system, each Hue light acts like a range extender by relaying the ZigBee signal."
