The Rookie's Guide to Options; 2nd edition: The Beginner's Handbook of Trading Equity Options

I really liked how only specific strategies were discussed but in a lot of detail. Lots of great examples and new takes on simple strategies that was very refreshing for me. I’ve been an option trader for few years now but have learnt most of my techniques through online videos and CBOE education. As I hit some books to solidify my concepts, this book definitely gave me a good perspective on areas where I’ve not been so great. I would have liked a chapter that discussed, maybe in a tabular format, all credit and debit strategies and risk management associated with them. Having said that, I read this cover to cover and I think anyone entering options market should as well!

A genuine teacher and true professional of Options trading. This is a classic book and author took his time in explaining each and every aspect of the options trading. Paying attention to the rookie readers, his thoughts and investing time in writing the footnotes, I can tell, Mr. Wolfinger is a master teacher, a true professional and a genuinely interested in teaching this complex subject to his students. I am an avid reader and i hardly wrote any book reviews but after reading 6 chapters of this book, I was impressed and compelled to write this review.There are many books i have read on options, yet i fail to master the subject. I am not saying I grasped everything i have read so far, but instead, everything is laid out systematically in the book, and I might have to read it a few times, thats all. Its just like reading anything repeatedly when i was a medical student. This is a complex subject and it takes time and we need to invest our time in learning. However, the book is thorough. Everything is in there....its upto us to read and re-read and take action accordingly.I will update this review in the future.

Despite the many favorable reviews, I found many other much more concise sourcesLike many other reviewers when I wanted to look into option trading I sought to educate myself, including looking at any and all purportedly good sources of information, this book among them. Personally (and I'm just speaking for myself) it was much much too long for what was covered, and the fact that the index is only 2 pages of large type for a 300+ page book makes it unlikely to be able to look into specific references within the book. I (again speaking for myself) place greater value on brevity and conciseness than I found in this book. (Understandably this is a relatively complex subject when taken in full, but it is targeted to rookies and I think could have been honed and been as if not more effective, i.e. don't lose the forest for the trees).

I am in India but still bought this book by paying the extra for shipping. This book is not available in retail in India so I had to buy from Amazon. (Amazon service BTW is great.)I think Mark never gives any advice that could be harmful for a trader in the long run. His advices are practical and profitable.The book has many strategies from conservative to aggressive trading to suit any type of investor. If you just buy stocks and sit - you are wasting time and money. Mark will give you great ideas to make money with the passage of time and sometimes you may not even buy the stock and still make money by investing less. There are some aggressive strategies as well.This book frankly is worth more than what you pay. Money is nothing compared to what you can make in a lifetime using the strategies in this book. Most of them are of limited risk. You will thank Mark for what he gives you for less than 30 dollars. This is less than what you pay for when you eat in a restaurant for just one sitting .So please do yourself a favor if you are an investor - BUY THIS BOOK and NOW!!!I use the same strategies in this book to trade here in India and am a happy investor!!!Dilip Shawhttp://niftyoptionstrading.in/

This book is fantastic. Options are presented in an easy to understand format and the complexity in trades slowly increases through each chapter after part 1. My recommendation is to read this book slowly with a notebook and phone by your side. Along with every example of XYZ stock he presents in the book, I tried to find a real world example to work side by side through. This technique has really opened the door for me to the world of options. Be warned, options should be used to hedge and increase your odds of seeing consistent, sometimes smaller gains, if you're buying this book because you're trying to hit it big real quick, this book won't help you (And the book that does help you with that goal may leave you bankrupt). I truly love this book and am recommending it to anyone who wants to know about the risk/rewards of options trading.

I decided that I wanted to start out trading in options but figured the responsible thing to do was to educate myself about them before hand. Mark Wolfinger's Rookie's Guide to Options 2nd edition is an excellent start. He goes into detail very well about all the different strategies- writing covered calls to spreads all the way to iron condors. He's also very reasonable and level headed in his book and not some kind of blow hard/ get rich quick writer. Well I'm not at the advanced level trading yet but his sound advice has been very helpful. Now that I've been trading for a little while I've gone back to reread some chapters and have picked up more insight. I would recommend this book, in addition to others, for anyone contemplating trading in stock options.

This is the best book on the subject that I have come across to date. Its author must be a teacher by nature, because his approach leaves no questions unanswered (and this is not an easy subject to address). It is very methodical in the way it covers the various subtopics, and it comes with sound advice on what one can and should do if s/he decides to put their newfound knowledge to work. What is fascinating is that it also dispels some of the wrong notions that are prevalent out there with regard to the risks associated with the various schemes one could use in the options market. All and all, this is a must read for anybody interested in investing in the stock market in a serious way.

A great book for someone who has no knowledge of options. I highly recommend this book as it provides a very educational approach to its reader, almost like a text book. I see this book as a springboard to other more in depth books on the subject of options. Very happy with it.

As a student of options trading I find this booka great supplement to my big 1000+ page hard cover book. I can read it anytime and find it clear & easy to follow.

This book was of enormous benefit to my stock options trading skills. I would definitely recommend it not only to novice traders, but also to experienced ones.

spiega le strategie di base e piu utilizzate in opzioni, molto discorsivo con esempi pratici su la scelta del premio da vendere o comprare dalla option chains, perchè è meglio scegliere uno strike anzichè un altro, quale operazione è piu conservativa, quale piu aggressiva. Non entra troppo in merito ai tecnicismi o alla teoria delle opzioni, quasi zero formule matematiche.. e molta prosa, quello che effettivamente serve e fa la differenza, oserei dire che ha fatto grande uso del metodo di Pareto, 80:20.

Clear explanation of how options work and how you can use them. Thoughtful treatment of risk and money management. Very good treatment of how different option strategies fit together. Wolfinger explains clearly how one options strategy, taken one step further, evolves in another strategy. This greatly improves one's understanding of how option strategies work, what they do and where the risks are. Reading this book adds to your confidence trading options.
