Go beyond your intellect for more happiness!
The book sums up and refers to many other works. The presentation is very engaging and interesting. It draws on Maslow's idea of peak experience and goes far beyond. If you sift through it, it suggests ground breaking concepts that are sure to be impactful. The book gives many examples. Just reading the dozens of examples is mind opening. For example, page 87, the author realizes he's been sexually attracted to angry women just like gis mom's anger during pregnancy. Even when the women were less angry, he would subconsciously stir them to be angry, so to relive and imitate his mother's anger. He concludes that his survival laod in being surrounded by the emotion of anger - all the way back to his fetal state!!!A must read. I'm an author myself (Sole to Soul, How to Love and Heal) and this is by far one of the better books on healing I've ran into.

Excellent Work And Much Needed
Peak States Of Consciousness volume 1 is an excellent book. Exploration and study of states of consciousness far outside consensus reality is extremely challenging. Mapping interior experience is highly subjective, given to much interpretation, very hard to put into language, difficult to objectively document, often frustrating to replicate, and concerns uncertain and unknown terrain at the edge of human cognition that can be terrifying and even dangerous. Just as often it can lead to breakthroughs and be incredibly rewarding. It is analogous to the pioneering explorations of outer space, only it's inner space. In the 20th century, Dr. John Lilly, inventor of the floatation tank, was a visionary 'psychonaut' and explorer of peak states. His books are filled with his struggles to make sense, quantify, objectify and document often incomprehensible and seemingly unbelievable experiences during altered states of consciousness.I have great respect and compassion for those who willing to "go there", knowing they risk themself and their professional reputation, as well. Negative comments about pseudo-science etc. miss the point entirely. Any scientist understands that exterior measurement of internal states are correlates at best, and that traditional empirical scientific research has many limitations in this domain of study. That, however, does not make it "unscientific".Like the authors of Peak States, I too have explored "Alternity", as Dr Lilly called it. For more than 30 years, I have pushed the envelope of consciousness and been richly rewarded in my own growth and insight. Any serious and intrepid explorer of the inner world will find this book an excellent start. Peak States Of Conscious volume 2 is even better.Keep up the good work fellas!

Finally one that lives up to its billing
I've purchased many books on the mind, spirit, human potential, etc. Finally, here is one that lays out a model and then tries to work from it to logical conclusions. The main author makes no claim to perfection - he strikes me a a guy who is doing the best he can and just wants something that works. Most others I've read were either wedded to their pet theory and would ignore reality if they clashed (most religious type practices) or else they were very general or personal without detailed working guides (such as some of the fascinating writings of Robert Anton Wilson). My interpretation of this work is that the techiniques aim to heal what their theory says are the traumas that block "optimal functioning" (my words) of the "self". I'll let the book speak for itself, but it is unique (in my experience) and refreshing.I didn't give it 5 stars only because it seems some of the core meat will be in Volumbe 2. Granted, this Volume 1 does have a number of techniques and does explicity state it is a book on both theory and applications. The techniques are user friendly and I am excited about Volume 2 whenever it will be issued. If you are serious about wanting to "upgrade" your "self" I strongly and highly recommend this work.

important material for all consciousness students
Peak States of Consciousness gives a great framework for understanding the wide variety of spiritual states, what they mean, and why they can be hard to retrieve or maintain. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in spiritual practice.

Groundbreaking
Groundbreaking !In this book, the author gives precise informations about the functionning of consciousness at a deep level, unifying psychology, biology and spirituality into a single, comprehensive, and science-based framework.Reading is indeed a bit challenging, and not for the profane. However, anyone interested into getting peak states of consciousness cannot ignore Grant McFetridge's model, as it probably is the most thorough and complete one, describing many many states of consciousness.I also really like that the book is describing the steps for acquiring peak states, using the trauma-resolution approach. The book also describe other approaches for acquiring peak states of consciousness, including brain biofeedback, polarity resolution, and the psychological choice for better state through Aldana's 15 minute miracles. As this field is new and very innovative, many won't believe what is described in the book. All too bad, the experience is true, and available to anyone willing to put some efforts in it. However, this material is still under research, and the Institute has made tremendous progresses since this book was released. Still, this is the foundation of a whole new way of looking at "Being Human".

Unsafe clinical practice- and shouldn't be practicing.
This Peak States of Consciousness volume covers Grant Fetridges dangerous shamanic clinical practice that led to six people dying through its research. What is worse is that the organisation has failed to address serious safety concerns. Despite being sold as a mental health intervention, the intervention is dangerous and has led directly to deaths of practicing clinicians as well as patients. The organisation has no proper plans in place for the safety and risk assessment of patients and failed to address concerns when raised. I was conned into buying these books by the CEO of the organisation despite the therapy being an inappropriate course to undertake either as clinician or patient, and my intention was to train as a therapist before learning of grave safety concerns. I speak from experience, I have 18 years of working in mental health and have been CEO of two mental health organisiations. This organisation is not safe and nor are any practicing clinicians to engage with unless they have set up their own safety protocols as the organisation doesn't have any.

Exceptionnel
