An easy to install camera with great customer service
I was shopping for a rearview camera for a Honda Odyssey, which has a poor rear view even with the trunk empty. I was planning to install it myself.WIRELESS VS. WIRED SYSTEMSAs soon as I familiarized myself with the procedure of installing a rearview camera, by looking at youtube videos and reading forums, I decided that it was too much of a hassle to install a wired camera (for example, finding a good path for the cable from the back of the car to the front, in which the cable is secure but not conspicuous; this might require quite a bit of disassembly of the interior of the car in certain car models, a time-consuming procedure that also puts you at risk of breaking something). Therefore, the only option for me was to find a wireless rearview camera system.WIRELESS SYSTEM OPTIONSThe wireless systems are composed of three elements. At the core is the wireless transmitter and receiver. The other two components are the camera and the monitor. Note that the camera and monitor can be any rearview camera and monitor as they both will connect to the wireless transmitter and receiver, respectively, and will not know the difference of being connected to a wireless or wired system. After shopping at Amazon, I found three buying options: (1) relatively inexpensive systems (under $100) having a normal resolution image, limited to an angle of view of about 150 degrees, (2) more expensive systems, mainly intended for trucks, that have a high definition image and a "fisheye" angle of view of about 170 degrees, or (3) to buy the three component parts separately. The last option (3) was discarded easily because it was much more expensive (at least when I was shopping) to buy the parts separately than to buy an assembled kit. I discarded option (2) because those kits were significantly more expensive and the cameras tended to be quite bulky, which I imagine does not matter in a truck, RV or the like (overall it still may remain inconspicuous given the size of those vehicles). So for me, it was the option (1).At the time I was shopping, there was only one inexpensive wireless rearview camera system with a significant number of reviews and it was the Emmako Backup Camera Wireless 7'' Monitor Kit. In addition, the price of this kit was among the lowest compared with other kits that had no reviews or too few to get an idea of its reliability. It was a no-brainer for me and so I bought it with Prime shipping.INSTALLATIONInstallation was relatively straightforward. I did not mount it in the license plate as I do not believe that covering any part of the license plate, particularly the state's identification, is legal. Instead, I drilled two little holes in a plastic rim above the license plate to mount the camera. It looks good there and barely noticeable. I also drilled a relatively small hole in the metal part of the trunk door to let the cable of the camera to reach the interior of the car (the backside of the trunk door). Because of the bulky terminals of the camera cables, I cut the cable, let the cable pass through the small hole I made on the trunk door and then spliced together the five little wires, which are color coded, on the other side of the trunk door (I used a little soldering, which was probably unnecessary). I taped with duct tape all the cables and the wireless transmitter to the trunk door, all of it later covered with the plastic trim that covers the back side of the trunk door that I had to remove prior to installation. For powering the camera and wireless transmitter, I used T-tap self-stripping quick-splice wire terminals (which were provided in the camera kit) to connect the wireless transmitter cables to the cables powering the backup lights (white lights) (this way, the monitor displays an image only when the gear is set to reverse, at all other times the monitor will display a blank blue screen, which can be turned off easily by pressing a large red button in the power "cigarette-lighter" adapter). The rest of the installation, that is, the monitor set up, is self-explanatory. Overall, the installation was quite painless. I took some time, with the help of another person, to align and adjust the guide lines so that it approximately tells me the distance from rear objects (probably unnecessary).RESULTI liked the camera set up. I placed the monitor to the left of the steering wheel next to the left-side mirror. This is a convenient placement when backing up as one is able to see both the side mirror and rear camera view next to each other. The camera is very useful. I can finally see where I'm going when backing up rather than relying only on the sonar sensors for backup assistance. When starting the car and changing the gear to reverse, the monitor displays the camera's view almost instantly (the delay is so short that it does not bother me at all). When I was installing it, I noticed some flickering of the image, but the flickering was fixed after I adjusted the cable connections. After that, the wireless communication has worked flawlessly so far as if the camera was wired. The images produced by the monitor are quite decent. It is not high definition but good enough to see very clearly and in detail the objects behind the car. The 150-degree angle is good enough (I just wonder whether the 170-degree angle would be more useful when backing up at 90 degrees of an intersection, e.g., from a driveway).CONSThe image in the monitor shows green objects as pink, that is, trees and grass will look pink (this problem was solved by the seller, who sent me another camera upon request, see below). However, other colors are displayed correctly, for example, the grey asphalt is displayed gray and so on.CUSTOMER SERVICEI contacted the seller to let them know about the pink color shown for green objects and they immediately sent me another camera free of charge. Although I just received the camera and had no time to replace the original one, I consider the customer service for this product 5 stars.Overall, I am very satisfied with the purchase of the Emmako Backup Camera Wireless 7'' Monitor Kit.

GREAT VALUE FOR THE MONEY
I was looking for a good, medium priced backup camera for my 1995 Ford F250 with an extended cab and bed. I did some research and decided to try the Emmako IP68. The unit came with several options for installing it. I ended up running a 16' video cable from the camera on the license plate to the cab. I used the enclosed 12V adapter that was in the box and has a push button on/off switch. The 7" screen has a wonderful picture with optional guidelines. I chose this installation, rather than wiring it to my back up lights, because there are times when I want to see what is behind me while I am parked or moving forward. Because of the length of my truck, I was not able to use the wireless transmitters/receiver. The unit has 2 video camera inputs for installation of another camera. There is a URL listed with a video for instructions. We emailed the seller and they were very fast in their reply and easy to work with. We ended up ordering another system for our motorhome. Our neighbor also ordered one for his SUV. Overall this unit is a good value, easy to install, and I was very pleased with the outcome! Would definitely recommend this product.

Great system and seller!!!
The system is working great! I use it on an extended cab Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup. I got tired of having someone stand at my camper and back me up so that I could hook it up to the hitch. I've used it this past weekend, and now I'm able to do it by myself in about half the time!I also hooked it up to the headlights. That way I can use it to look behind me whenever I want, instead of only when I'm backing up.The seller is great at answering emails and responding to problems/questions. I asked them to send me a windshield mount since it wouldn't mount on my dash. I received it in 2 days.Thank you!

Excellent value, decent quality, very usable
After a previously installed wireless system died I went looking for a new backup camera unit to replace it and that would address the shortcomings of the previous unit. With the monitor installed on the left-hand corner of the dash of my 2007-2013 model Chevrolet Suburban, the most important feature, over and above good functionality, was a large screen. At 7" diagonal, the Emmako unit fit the bill.I also purchased their 2nd camera (though I see they will send you one for free) in order to install a forward facing camera, as well. This is supported by a switch on the monitor. I also decided to hard-wire the cameras, rather than use the wireless feature, to insure the quality and reliability of the connections in this very large SUV.Installation went as expected, with no gotcha's, and the unit operates as advertised. So fdar I've noticed only two negatives which prevented a five star review. The first is that the orientation of the displays is the same for both cameras. This means that either the backup camera or the forward camera will be reversed from left to right. You can change it while you are using either camera, but that is very inconvenient when actually parking. The second issue is with the night vision. It works very well, unless someone else has their headlights pointed directly at the camera, in which case the image flares badly and if you are relying on the camera to park you need to be very careful.Overall I would recommend the unit and would purchase for another vehicle if necessary.
